Korbin McGowan and Lane Warner of the Fredericktown baseball team | Coach Ryan Hathaway

Fredericktown may have had some growing pains this year on the baseball diamond going 6-20 after losing a huge core of players from the year prior, but there were some bright spots on the squad that included senior Korbin McGowan being named first team All-KMAC and District.

McGowan batted .351 with a .990 OPS on the season. He belted three homers and six doubles to lead the Freddies. His 27 hits cracked the top 10 in the conference, and his doubles and homers tied him for third in both categories.

Fellow senior Lane Warner was selected as an honorable mention for All-KMAC.

“Our MVPs were our seniors Korbin And Lane,” said Coach Ryan Hathaway. “They had great attitudes, led even when times were tough and we weren’t getting the outcomes we wanted.”

Carter Mull was named second team All-KMAC and honorable mention for all-district, as well.

Hathaway said the team had trouble replacing the big, talented senior class that went 25-2 the season before. However, he was proud of the way they competed and got better as the season went on. The inexperience was the biggest flaw, but they will return all but two seniors next season. Hathaway noted that the squad has been hard at work already this summer.

He said there is plenty of work to be done, but the positivity is high with the Freddies despite the down year. Hathaway said the level of competition on the team should continue to drive improvement and skill levels up to push toward a successful 2025 campaign.

“Our players understand that when a new season rolls around, the door is open for them to make big improvements and work as hard as possible to win a spot and some are really taking that to heart,” said Hathaway. “The competition and drive to improve is what we need to get back to where we have been in previous years.”
