Pirates finish out week with 12-1 win over Mansfield Christian

Cardington-Lincoln had a tough start to the week with a pair of losses, but managed to finish strong with a blowout win over Mansfield Christian.

Pleasant 5, Cardington 0

The bats just wouldn’t get going for the Cardington-Lincoln Pirates on April 1, with Pleasant capitalizing off a big second inning to take a 5-0 win.

Merek McClure took the loss, going only one and two-thirds innings allowing four hits, four earned runs and a walk. However, Wyatt Wade was lights out in relief, going the final five and one-third innings, allowing only two hits, one earned run in the fourth inning, and striking out 12. He didn’t walk a batter.

While McClure had a tough day on the hill, he was the team’s top offensive player with a 3-for-3 day (all singles). He also stole a base. Denton Garrison went 1-for-3 with a double. Fisher Schuman went 1-for-3 with a single for the team’s fifth hit.

Elgin 7, Cardington 4

Cardington-Lincoln had a two run lead going into the fourth inning, but the Elgin Comets rallied for five combined runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-4 win on April 3.

Abner Edgell singled in the second inning to open up the scoring, driving in a run to put Cardington-Lincoln up 1-0. In the third inning, McClure knocked a two run single to go up by three. An error brought home another run on a Garrison ground ball.

In the bottom half of the third inning, Elgin had back-to-back RBI singles to make it a 4-2 game. Then in the bottom of the fourth inning they scored on a sacrifice fly. In the fifth inning Elgin made it 7-4 on an RBI dingle, followed by a two-run single.

Garrison was 2-for-4 with a stolen base. McClure went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Edgell was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

AJ Hall took the loss, going five innings allowing nine hits, seven runs but only three earned, and a walk while striking out six batters.

Cardington-Lincoln 12, Mansfield Christian 1

The Pirates combined for a one-hitter and had eight hit of their own, all singles, in a 12-1 blowout of Mansfield Christian on April 6

James Fiant picked up the win on the mound, going the first two innings, allowing three walks while striking out two. Evan Marquis came in the next two innings, allowing an earned run and the only hit for the Flames, while striking out four. Schuman pitched an inning of scoreless and hitless ball.

Edgell was the top player on offense, going 1-for-1 with a pair of RBIs and a run.
