The Knox County Special Olympics is set to kick off an event at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, bringing together athletes, families, and communities to celebrate unity and achievement. This event, hosted by the Bladensburg Community Center and the Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities, promises to be a showcase of determination, sportsmanship, and inclusion.

The Knox County Special Olympics will feature a variety of sports competitions, including free throw basketball events, basketball competitions and other fun activities, providing athletes with disabilities a platform to showcase their skills and compete at their best. 

“We are thrilled to host the Knox County Special Olympics, an event that celebrates the talents and accomplishments of individuals with disabilities,” said Kim Davidson, president of the Bladensburg Community Heritage Foundation, the non-profit that operates the Bladensburg Community Center. “This event is a testament to the power of sports to bring people together, break down barriers, promote inclusion, build confidence and help develop lifelong skills.”

In addition to the sporting events, the Knox County Special Olympics will feature closing ceremonies, where athletes will be honored for their achievements, and the spirit of the games will be celebrated. Spectators can also enjoy a range of activities, food vendors, and entertainment throughout the event.
