Columbia Gas's pipeline installation project is set to affect approximately 200 residences situated along and south of East Gambier Street, with the impact expected to commence in mid-March.

According to a press release from the City of Mount Vernon, the project will involve the replacement of 10,000 feet of new gas pipelines. This infrastructure will replace the main natural gas line and service lines that connect homes and businesses to the Columbia Gas system. In response to potential questions and concerns from residents, the utility has scheduled a virtual meeting.

The City of Mount Vernon press release further details that this virtual meeting is slated for 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14. It can be accessed at https://shorturl.at/bpsEO or by calling 213-514-7050 with an access code of 688 220 72#. For those utilizing the web link, downloading Microsoft Teams may be necessary.

The press release also outlines the geographical boundaries of the project footprint. These are defined by East Gambier Street on the north; Quarry Street on the east; South, Pennsylvania and Howard streets on the south; and Harnwell Street to the west.

According to another City of Mount Vernon press release, there will be some short-term disruptions caused by this pipeline project within these neighborhoods. Residents should anticipate outages lasting between two to four hours as well as excavation work in yards, sidewalks, and streets. As part of this project, indoor gas meters will also be relocated.
