The Mount Vernon City Council has unanimously approved a resolution to apply for up to $1.4 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.

City Engineer Brian Ball informed the council that, if awarded, the grant funds would be utilized for sidewalk construction on East Vine Street, sewer and park improvements on the north side of West High Street, and brick street maintenance. This information was obtained from the draft minutes of the April 22 Mount Vernon City Council meeting.

According to these same draft minutes, Mount Vernon is eligible for up to $750,000 in 2024 CDBG Neighborhood Revitalization Grant funds. The city also qualifies for up to $500,000 in CDBG Critical Infrastructure funds and up to $150,000 in CDBG Allocation funds.

Councilmember Janis Seavolt proposed the motion to approve the resolution, with Tammy Woods seconding it. As per the draft minutes of the April 22 Mount Vernon City Council meeting, all seven council members voted in favor of the measure.
