The Mount Vernon City Council recently conducted preliminary readings of resolutions aimed at establishing two new roles within the city's administration: an assistant fire chief and a human resources generalist.
According to the agenda for the council's meeting on February 26, these initial readings took place during Monday's gathering of the Mount Vernon City Council.
The resolution proposes setting the base salary for the assistant fire chief at $85,217, as per details from the council's February 26 meeting agenda. The pay structure includes annual raises of $600 for the first five years, with this amount incrementally increasing to $850 by the ninth year.
Similarly, the proposed base salary for the human resources generalist position is $66,140, according to information from the same meeting agenda. This role would see longevity increases of $400 annually for the first five years, with this figure gradually rising to reach $700 by year nine.
As detailed in the council's February 26 meeting agenda, both positions would be classified as exempt employees who are required to work as necessary. This includes working outside normal business hours. To officially establish these positions, a two-thirds vote from City Council members would be necessary.
