The Mount Vernon City Council has sanctioned a $3.1 million contract with the Ohio Department of Transportation for the expansion of Edgewood Road. The city's contribution to the costs will amount to $492,763.

According to the agenda from the Mount Vernon City Council meeting on Feb. 26, the Edgewood Road project will encompass widening, drainage enhancements, and multimodal improvements. The agreement stipulates that the city will bear 100% of the cost for features that both the state and Federal Highway Administration deem unnecessary for the project.

As per the same council meeting agenda, Mount Vernon will shoulder 20% of engineering costs for this project, which equates to $37,500. Additionally, it will pay 20% of right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation expenses, with its share budgeted at $150,000. The city's portion of construction costs is set at 5%, or $105,263. Moreover, it must cover 100% of inspection costs, estimated at $200,000.

The remaining balance of $2.65 million in project costs will be funded by Federal Highway Administration funds, as per details in the Mount Vernon City Council meeting agenda on Feb. 26.

Once construction is completed, Mount Vernon will be accountable for all maintenance related to this project, according to information from their Feb. 26 council meeting agenda. This includes ensuring that the right-of-way remains unobstructed.
