When Keegan Uhl gets a hot hand from deep, it is best to keep feeding her the ball. That’s exactly what the West Holmes Knights (15-6, 13-1) did in a 62-28 win over Madison Comprehensive (8-13, 4-10) on Feb. 8, and Uhl broke her own school record with nine threes.

“We are super proud of Keegan for breaking her record that she previously set last year,” said Coach Lindsy Belden. “It was fun to watch her shoot it with so much confidence.

West Holmes went up 6-0 early, highlighted by a steal and fast break score by Allie McMillen. They had a commanding 13-4 lead after one quarter.

West Holmes went up 25-7 on a three by Uhl in the second quarter. Jewel Brown also had a strong contribution in the quarter, recording a steal and then quickly hitting a three to make it a 28-9 lead. West Holmes had a 28-11 lead at the end of the half.

In the third quarter, McMillen stole a pass and scored on another fast break to go up 32-14. They extended the lead to 41-16 on a three by Uhl. It was all West Holmes in the quarter, as they outscored the Rams 21-5 to take a 49-16 lead.

Briar Cline also hit a three ball in the fourth quarter to make it a 59-20 lead. This was followed by a huge three at the end of the game for Uhl to go up 62-21, and give her the school record.

Uhl broke her own record of eight three pointers in a game that she set last year in a win over New Philadelphia where she had 28 points.

This game was even more dominant for Uhl, as she finished with a career high 31 points on 10-for-19 shooting and 9-for-15 from beyond the arc. She had an amazing plus 43 when on the court in her 26 minutes of play. Uhl also grabbed two boards and dished out an assist.

Cline scored 14 points and tallied seven rebounds, an assist and two steals. McMillen put up eight points on 4-for-5 shooting, grabbed two boards and had five assists. She was huge defensively with five steals and eight deflections. Chloe Patten had four points, three boards, two assists and two steals. Brown hit a three and had a rebound and a steal. Nealie Fair rounded out the scoring with two points, and also had a rebound and a pair of assists.

Madison Comprehensive was led by Chloe Ebeling’s seven points, five steals, seven rebounds and two assists.

West Holmes shot 46% and held the Rams to 29.4%. The Knights were 12-for-22 from beyond the arc. They also capitalized off turnovers with 21 points. The Knights led 29-22 in rebounds and 14-6 in assists. Each team had 11 steals and a block.

Coach Belden was proud of her team’s ability to find Uhl for open looks during what was a historic night for the senior point guard.

“A huge shoutout to her teammates for getting her the ball when she was hot, and being genuinely happy for her to reach this accomplishment,” she said.

West Holmes is on top of the Ohio Cardinal Conference and battling Mansfield Senior for first place, as both teams have only one conference loss.
