Warren Garrison had a huge week for the Cardington-Lincoln boys’ basketball team, leading his team to a pair of wins and scoring at will with a hot hand from deep in record setting fashion. His strong play has awarded him a nod as Mount Vernon Athlete of the Week.

The Pirates started off the week with a 67-62 win over Horizon Science Academy on Jan. 29 in front of a home crowd where he all scorers with his first 30 point game of the week. The junior guard was hot right from the start with a 13 point first quarter that included a pair of three-pointers. His dominance continued in the second frame where he added eight more points to give him 21 points at the half. While he only hit a pair of foul shots in the third quarter, he finished strong with seven fourth quarter points that included a make from downtown.

On Jan. 31 the Pirates took on Northmor in a battle between two of the best teams in KMAC, and while the Pirates had a one point lead in the third quarter, they couldn’t hold on for a win. Garrison had a solid night for Cardington-Lincoln, however. He put up 13 points along with three steals, two boards and two assists.

Garrison finished out the week with his best scoring output of the season at 32 points to lead the Pirates to a 79-42 win over KMAC foe East Knox. He was huge from deep, tying a school record for most threes in a game with eight. Garrison started off on fire, hitting three from downtown in the opening quarter and tallying 11 points. His hot hand continued in the second quarter with two more threes, and at the half he had 19 points. Garrison sank one shot in the third, and then had a great fourth quarter with 11 points that included three more threes.

During the week Garrison set his season high in scoring twice, tied a school record for threes in a game, and helped the team to a record of 12-6 and 7-3 in the hotly contested Knox Morrow Athletic Conference.

Garrison is the team’s second leading scorer and in the top 10 in KMAC at 13.9 points per game, just behind his teammate AJ Brehm who is at 15 ppg. The two have served as a formidable duo down the stretch.

"Warren works hard every day in practice and has invested a lot of time in his game and weight room over the offseason," said Coach Jason Rice. "He’s done a nice job of taking the open shots but not forcing his shot."

Congratulations to Warren Garrison for what was a week to remember, and good luck the rest of the season!
