The Midland girls’ basketball team (13-14, 3-3) won their second straight game, with Hannah Lujan and Kayden Young each posting double-doubles in a commanding 48-22 district win over the Odessa Bronchos (10-20, 0-6) on Jan. 23.

“Great defensive effort, which increased our fast break points and second chance opportunity,” said Midland Coach Olivia Pyburn.

Midland jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first quarter, with Lujan leading the charge with six points. After a 7-5 second quarter advantage, Midland took a 22-10 lead into the locker room. Lujan had 10 points at halftime.

The third quarter was all Midland, outscoring the Bronchos 18-7 with Young scoring six points. They finished strong with an 8-5 fourth quarter to secure the win.

Midland spread the ball around nicely with seven players scoring. Lujan was the star of the game putting up 16 points and 14 boards to lead the Lady Bulldogs to the big win. Young had 10 points and 11 boards for Midland.

“Kids came out and played hard,” Pyburn said. “Our full court defense was key in getting stops early versus a talented Permian team. Great momentum win and we will keep building and preparing for next week's opponents.”
