Colton Slaughter has consistently been one of the top scorers in the Mount Vernon News coverage area, and last week he helped the New Philadelphia Quakers get above the .500 mark with his hot hand. For that reason, Slaughter is the newest Mount Vernon Athlete of the Week.

“Slaughter has shot the ball very well this season,” said Coach Zach Ross. “He has hit some big shots in games. He has shot 47% for the season from three-point range.”

Slaughter started the week with a 22 point night in a win over John Glenn, where he led all scorers. Not only was he 6-for-12 and 3-for-6 from the three point line, but he also got to the foul line and hit his free throws, going 7-for-8. He also had a team high six rebounds, with two being offensive boards. Slaughter was also able to find open shooters with a pair of assists.

Despite taking a 44-41 loss to a very tough Mansfield Senior squad, Slaughter once again hit the 20 point mark to account for nearly half of the points for the Quakers.

He ended the week helping the Quakers to a 55-47 win over Zanesville to give New Philadelphia a 5-4 record. Slaughter wasn’t the main scorer in the win, but he still was a focal point on offense. He tallied nine points and did a great job drawing fouls on shots, going 6-for-8 from the charity stripe. Slaughter grabbed three defensive rebounds and had an assist in the victory.

Congratulations to Colton Slaughter and good luck this week!
