The East Knox girls’ basketball was at the .500 mark over the first six games of the season, but after two-point win over Northmor they have slid the past two games with the most recent loss 49-32 loss to Heath (2-4, 1-2) on Dec. 18.
It was a battle of the Bulldogs and East Knox was in enemy territory where they stumbled out of the gate, going down 16-4 with Isabelle Bostic and Jayden Annett each hitting a shot. They scored seven in the second quarter with Reese Todd and Cloe Tucker scoring three points apiece, but Heath put up 13 points to take a commanding 29-11 lead at halftime.
East Knox had their best quarter in the third, scoring 12 points led by Molly Totten and Annett each scoring four points. They played well in the fourth quarter with a 9-4 advantage but it was far too great a deficit.
Tucker and Annett had six points apiece to lead East Knox in scoring. Sydney Opfer had five points while Bostic and Totten had four points. Todd had a three in the game, and rounding out the scoring were Jasmine Smith and Malena Streby with two points each.
Heath was led by Peyton Del Cecato with 17 points.
Previously they lost to Centerburg 61-30 on Dec. 16 where Smith scored seven points and Opfer scored six points. They couldn’t keep up with the high scoring output by the Lady Trojans, who were led by a 24-point showing for Kayla Larimore.
The losses were coming off a 35-32 victory over Northmor on Dec. 13, where Bostic put up 11 points including a three. Totten had eight points, Opfer had four points and Annett had two points to round out the scoring in the win. It was a quality win that put them at .500 and up against a KMAC foe, and the Bulldogs are looking to get back to the winning ways this week.
The Bulldogs face Cardington-Lincoln on Dec. 20, and they won’t have another game after until taking on Mapleton (2-3, 1-1) in a tournament game on Dec. 30.
