East Knox Elementary School asks the community to help fill the branches of "The Mitten Tree" with donations for adults and children to give the gift of warmth. The initiative aims to support families in need within the local community during the winter months.
The initiative kicked off during a season of giving.
The school launched East Knox Elementary's Mitten, Scarf, and Hat Collection Drive just before Thanksgiving, according to a Facebook post by East Knox Local Schools. With dropping temperatures, many people in the community need a little help in staying warm. So the school invited the community to step in and help out.
In terms of contributions, there are specific items that can be donated.
The school will take donations of adult and child-sized new or homemade mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves, according to the Facebook post by East Knox Local Schools. Those donations will be hung on the mitten tree and later will be donated to a local charity for distribution.
Moreover, there is a specific timeframe for making these valuable contributions.
Donations to East Knox Elementary's Mitten, Scarf, and Hat Collection Drive will be accepted until Dec. 19, according to a Facebook post by East Knox Local Schools.
