Young hunters in Knox County harvested 293 white-tailed deer during the two-day youth season on Saturday and Sunday, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife press release. This event is an annual occurrence aimed at promoting responsible hunting among the younger generation.

Starting with a broader perspective, Across Ohio, young hunters harvested 10,039 white-tailed deer during the two-day season on Nov. 18 and 19, according to an ODNR Division of Wildlife press release.

Moving towards a county-wise breakdown, Knox County had the fourth-highest total of deer harvested during the youth season, according to an ODNR Division of Wildlife press release. The top 10 counties were Tuscarawas (391); Coshocton (365); Muskingum (304); Knox (293); Holmes (267); Guernsey (261); Licking (256); Harrison (239); Belmont (209); and Richland (205).

Digging into historical data reveals, The 2023 season total is the second-highest youth season harvest on record, according to an ODNR Division of Wildlife press release. The top season was in 2007 when youth hunters took 10,590 deer with firearms during the season.

To provide further insights into this year's harvest, There were 5,736 antlered and 4,303 antlerless deer checked by the youth hunters over the weekend, according to an ODNR Division of Wildlife press release. In 2022 they harvested 9,510 deer during the two-day youth gun season.
