Sponsored by the Licking County Foundation, Knox County Foundation, Wigal Orthodontics, and Park National Bank, the Central Ohio Youth Ballet presents “The Nutcracker” on Dec. 9 and 10 at $24 per ticket.

The Woodward Opera House located at 107 South Main St., Mount Vernon will be home to a magical experience when The Nutcracker’s main character, Clara wakes up to a mystical adventure ahead of her.

“Clara falls asleep, and suddenly, visions of sugarplums are no longer dreams. Dancing snowflakes dazzle her eyes,” according to Mount Vernon Arts Consortium. “Toy soldiers come to life and protect Clara against the Mouse Queen and her troop!”

“She enters the Land of Sweets and the audience journeys with her.”

The Central Ohio Youth Ballet dance troupe will enchant its audience with Clara’s captivating escapade. The ballerinas, in their colorful costumes, will gracefully twirl, swirl, and sway to tell the story of Clara’s extraordinary but almost real-life dream. In her dream, she will be protected by toy soldiers from the villain, Mouse Queen. The Woodward Opera House’s stage will be filled with vivid scenes to immerse the audience in a visual experience as Clara embarks on an adventure with a picturesque snowy landscape, and a splendid kingdom of delectable treats. 

For nearly three decades, The Nutcracker by the Central Ohio Youth Ballet has been a cherished tradition being looked forward to in Central Ohio, evident by the strong demand for tickets. This constant support from the community underscores the troupe's commitment to delivering a high-quality production in collaboration with the Woodward Opera House.
