Danville Local Schools uses air quality environmental sensors in part to monitor vaping activity at school district buildings and shared reasons for their use in a letter to parents, guardians and stakeholders on Nov. 7.

"The sensors monitor air quality elements including vape, TVOC (total volatile organic compounds), temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, and noise levels," said Danville Local Schools in the letter to parents, guardians and stakeholders.

Using these tools will help the school district address concerns about e-cigarettes and addictive chemical use among young people. "These tools and district policies are intended to promote the well-being and academic success of the school community," stated Danville Local Schools in their correspondence with parents, guardians, and stakeholders.

Serious health risks linked to vaping include respiratory problems and nicotine addiction. "Vaping can disrupt the learning process and create classroom distractions that don't allow students to maintain their focus on education. Monitoring the environment and reinforcing the anti-vaping policy sets a positive example for students," said Danville Local Schools in their communication with parents, guardians, and stakeholders.
