Twenty-seven participating schools will send honors choirs to Mount Vernon Nazarene University for the 2023 District 10 Music Education Association (OMEA) Honors Choir Festival on Saturday, Nov. 4. The festival will feature high school and middle school honors choirs from Ashland, Coshocton, Delaware, Holmes, Knox, Licking, Morrow, and Richland counties, according to an MVNU press release.

The day will begin with a morning of instruction and will culminate in a final concert at 3:30 p.m. in the R.R. Hodges Chapel Auditorium on the MVNU campus. The concert is free and open to the public, providing an opportunity for music enthusiasts to enjoy the talents of these young performers.

Scott MacPherson, a renowned conductor, will direct the high school honors choir. MacPherson has conducted choirs in Germany, China, and Taiwan and recently retired from his position as the director of Choral Studies at Kent State University, a role he held since 2008.

The middle school honors choir will be directed by Kim Wolbert, an Ashland native. Wolbert has a 17-year teaching career that includes general music and choral music education in grades 5-12 in public schools. She most recently taught at Ashland City Schools and also serves as a music minister at Trinity Lutheran Church, where she directs more than six choirs and is the Praise and Worship team director.

The 2023 District 10 Music Education Association Honors Choir Festival promises to be a showcase of talent and a celebration of music education. With 27 schools participating and esteemed directors leading the choirs, it is an event that music lovers won't want to miss.
