Obituaries: Samuel R. Williams | Snyder Funeral Homes

Samuel R. Williams, 82, of Mount Vernon passed away on Friday morning, September 22, 2023 at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville. He was on born December 12, 1940 in Lock, Ohio to the late Bryant and Ruth (Heil) Williams.

Sam honorably served his country in the Army from 1956 -1960 and later the Army National Guard of Ohio from 1960 to 1964. He worked for Flxible Bus Company for 17 years in Loudonville. He was the Dog Warden for Knox County for several years and later served as the Knox County Humane Officer, retiring in 2000. Sam was a member of the Mt. Zion Lodge #9 F. & A.M., he obtained is Master Mason 32nd Degree, Knox Chapter #236 Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Knox County Baldwin Shrine, Morgan Grange, Knox County Pomona Grange and Chapter Y of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He enjoyed collecting classic cars but had a particular interest in the Chevrolet Corvairs. He also collected Honda Gold Wings and has traveled to almost every state in the continental United States with his late wife, Carolyn and other family members. Later in life he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his loving partner, Janet White.

Sam is survived by his children, Darrell Williams and Randal Williams; grandchildren, Kevin Williams, Gary (Jessica) Williams, Alaina Williams, Shaun Fouch, Randal Williams Jr. Natasha Williams and Nathan Williams; great grandchild, Chloe Williams; nephew, Dennis Williams; niece, Sandra Swartz; and his partner, Janet White.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Williams; son, Gary Williams; brothers, Leland and Lewis Williams; and a sister, Helen Fowler.

The family was received friends from 11- 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4,2023 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Dowds Chapel, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. A Masonic and Eastern Star memorial service was begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 followed by a funeral service with Rev. Jerry Ernst officiating. Burial was followed in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
