Obituaries: Loretta Geraldine Wiseman | Snyder Funeral Homes

Loretta Geraldine (Bell) Wiseman, 96, of Mont Vernon passed peacefully on August 17, 2023 following an extended illness.

Loretta was born April 1, 1927 in Knox County to the late Leet O. and Dorothy E. (Rhodeback) Bell. Loretta was a graduate of Utica High School, Class of 1944. She married Roy E. Wiseman on July 15, 1945, following Roy’s discharge from the Army Air Corps. Together they bought one of the few remaining houses in Mount Vernon after the wat and a built a life, raising two daughters there. Loretta enjoyed employment at the former Mercy Hospital in Mount Vernon as a nurse’s aide, Kenyon College food service, and the YMCA of Mount Vernon. She was a longtime member of the First Christian (Disciples of Christ) in Mount Vernon.

Loretta is survived by her daughters, Beverly (James) Sivits of Gambier and Gale (David) Harstine of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Curt (Michelle) Purday, Amy Ousley, Nicole (Marshall) Justice, and Andrew Laymon; twelve great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; sister, Dixie Smoots; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Besides her husband and her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by two grandsons, Trevor Purdy, and Benjamin Laymon; sisters, Louise Pahl, Cora Cuccio, Mary Laymon, Eunice Bell, Bonnie Davis, and Marge Rutherford; and brother, Corwin Bell.

There was be no calling hours. A graveside service, with Mr. Roger Crego from Centerburg Church of Christ officiating, was be held in Mound View Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023.
