In Loving Memory of John Lee Fair (June 28, 1946 - August 14, 2023)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Lee Fair, a beloved figure in both the local community and the broader world. John passed away peacefully on August 14, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that was forever be etched in the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on June 28, 1946, John's life was a remarkable journey filled with dedication, passion, and a commitment to serving others. He was a man of many accomplishments, touching lives and making a lasting impact on the lives he touched.

John's influence was felt most profoundly within the realm of education and sports. As a well-known track and cross-country coach at Mount Vernon High School, he inspired countless young athletes to push their boundaries and achieve their personal best. His guidance and mentorship extended far beyond the track, shaping the character and resilience of generations of students.

John's commitment to community extended beyond the school grounds. He dedicated many years to public service, sitting on the city council and working tirelessly to improve the lives of those around him. His leadership and vision played a pivotal role in shaping the development and growth of the community he cherished. John was a member and strong advocate of many civic organizations in Mount Vernon.

In addition to his civic duties, John's dedication to serving his country was also evident in his role as Colonel and Chief of Staff for the Ohio Military Reserve. His selfless service and unwavering dedication to duty earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and subordinates alike.

Beyond his professional achievements, John was a loving husband, father, and friend. His warm smile, kind heart, and willingness to lend an ear was be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and the belief that positive change can be achieved through hard work and determination.

John Fair's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit was continue to live on in the memories and stories shared by those he touched. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the remarkable life he led and the indelible mark he left on our hearts.

John is survived by his loving wife Sharon Slane Fair; Sons Ryan (Amber) Fair, John (Bertie) Krakoff, Scott (Cara) Ritter; Daughters, Whitney Fair, Sonda Ritter; Brother Mike (Connie) Fair, Sister Sheila Cochran, Sister-in-laws, Linda (Andy) Anderson, Mary Slane, Susie (Tom) Atnip, Bonnie Slane, Gerre Slane, Brother-in-law, Charlie (Michelle) Slane, and to include his loving Nieces, Nephews, Grandchildren and many dear close friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leland Fair, and Virginia (Pence) Fair, Brother-in-Law Jerry Slane.
