Lucy Peterson, a senior at MVHS and the captain of the Junior Varsity soccer team, has earned the honor of representing the United States of America on the national team at the Down Syndrome Football America Cup in São Paulo, Brazil this upcoming autumn. This remarkable achievement is a testament to her dedication and talent in the world of soccer.

Hailing from Ohio, Lucy stands as the sole representative from her state, joining fellow athletes from across the country to form the USA national team. The highly anticipated tournament is scheduled to take place from November 17 to 26 and will feature teams from eight countries, including Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Uruguay, Chile, and the USA, all vying for the prestigious international cup.

Lucy's journey to this event began earlier this summer when she attended the national team camp and tryout in Glassboro, New Jersey, where she competed alongside players from various regions of the United States. Following thorough player evaluations, Lucy Peterson received a well-deserved invitation from the Down Syndrome Sports of America (DSSA) to become a member of the national team.

Lucy expresses her gratitude to all those who have supported her soccer journey, including her High School coaches, Bill Lonsinger and Travis Keller, as well as her current and former teammates. She also extends her thanks to the YMCA of Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon Sting Soccer Club, the Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio, and the Columbus Crew for their role in providing her with opportunities to be part of various teams, camps, and clinics over the years.
