Lexington and Madison Comprehensive squared off on Friday night on the gridiron and the Minutemen came away with a 31-21 win after trailing in the first half.
The Rams had a 13-7 lead over the Minutemen after one quarter, highlighted by an 80-yard touchdown pass by Cameron Kuhn. Joe Caudill had a touchdown pass for the Minutemen. Both teams were held scoreless in the second quarter and it was a six point lead for Madison Comprehensive at halftime.
In the third quarter Lexington scored to take a one point lead, and then tacked on a field goal in the fourth quarter to go up 17-13. They added another score to go up 24-13. The Rams responded with a long touchdown run of 63 yards, but Lexington tacked on a touchdown and an extra point in the final quarter.
With the score 24-21 with seven minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Minutemen had the ball on their own 26-yard line. Caudill tossed a long pass to senior running back Carter Newman to get the ball to the Ram 35-yard line with six minutes on the clock. The Rams were able to stop them before scoring to stay within striking distance, but Lexington would take over again. Caudill tossed a long pass to Seven Allen getting the Minutemen to the 49-yard line of the Rams. With about a minute to go, Caudill tossed a pass to Brayden Fogle, getting it down to the seven-yard line. Bryston Hess scored a seven-yard rushing touchdown, and an extra point made it a 31-21 game.
Madison Comprehensive took over and Kuhn launched a pass to Grayson Sasis to get to the 49-yard line, but Caudill was able to pick off a Kuhn pass and secure the win.
Caudill was 11-for-21 for 149 yards and a touchdown for Lexington. The Minutemen had 189 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 43 carries as a team. They had 338 yards of offense. Lexington had 19 first downs and were 6-for-13 on third down and 2-for-3 on fourth down.
Kuhn was 7-for-14 for 156 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Rams ran 24 times for 183 yards and two touchdowns in total. The Rams had 339 total yards.
Lexington hosts Ashland on Friday at 7 p.m. for the last game of the season. Madison Comprehensive faces the Mansfield Senior Tygers at home starting at 7 p.m.
