Dominant Danville crushes Cardington-Lincoln in high-scoring showdown led by Weckesser's triple touchdown performance

Danville beat Cardington-Lincoln last week 61-21 | Danville football X page

Walker Weckesser led KMAC leading Danville (7-0, 4-0) with three touchdowns in a 61-21 blowout win over Cardington-Lincoln (1-6, 0-4) on Friday night in conference action.

Danville started off the scoring with a 27-yard touchdown by Cole Delaughder, who took a handoff out of the shotgun, found a hole, and hit the end zone untouched for a score. After a Weckesser interception that put the Blue Devils on the 24-yard-line, he handed the ball off to Delaughder for a touchdown run. Weckesser found the end zone with a 10-yard touchdown pass, and Wesley Payne provided some offense with a 26-yard end around play for a touchdown. Danville led 32-0 after one quarter.

Danville outscored Cardington-Lincoln 22-14 in the second quarter to take a 54-14 halftime lead. Cardington-Lincoln’s offense did wake up, sparked by a 31-yard run by Wyatt Denney. Kalin Briggs then found the end zone on a 29-yard touchdown catch, and  later in the quarter caught another pass across the middle and ran it in for a 39-yard touchdown.

Both teams were scoreless in the third and each scored a touchdown in the fourth, with Denney going 59-yards for the Pirates, but the Blue Devils took a huge win at home.

Weckesser was 9-for-12 for 135 yards and two touchdowns. He was also effective on the ground with four carries for 41 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Hackman ran nine times for 65 yards and a touchdown. Delaughder had four carries for 54 yards and two scores, and also hauled in three passes for 35 yards. Aidan Burke had an 18-yard touchdown catch and Caleb Lucas had two catches for 23 yards, and a touchdown. Bryer Boeshart had a solid day on offense and special teams, running back a punt for 40 yards and catching two passes for 50 yards.

Defensively for the Blue Devils, Burke led the way with 10 tackles, while Weckesser had seven and two for a loss. Weckesser also had an interception for Danville.

The Pirates were led by Briggs with a pair of touchdown catches. Wyatt had more than 100 yards rushing and scored a touchdown. Cardington-Lincoln totaled 236 yards of offense, with 154 yards rushing.
