Weisbrod lead Lady Trojans volleyball to big wins in 4-1 stretch

Centerburg (16-3, 9-1) went 4-1 over their last five games, with senior outside hitter Stella Weisbrod leading the charge game in and game out.

On Sept, 25, the Trojans and Mount Vernon (14-5, 9-3) squared off in what was a matchup between two of the top teams in their respective conferences fighting for the top spot, and the Trojans rose to the occasion in a big 3-1 win over the Yellow Jackets fueled by a big night by Weisbrod.

“It was great to get the win last night vs Mount Vernon,” said Coach Abigail Boudinot. “It is our second Division 1 win of the year, Olentangy being the first. We have worked very hard to compete against high level teams. We take each win or loss as a lesson and use that to make us a better team for the future."

Centerburg won the first set 25-19, but the Yellow Jackets were ready for set two. It was a see-saw battle, but Mount Vernon was able take a 25-23 win. Centerburg handily won sets three and four by scores of 25-16 and 25-17. 

Weisbrod had herself a solid match for the Trojans, with the outside hitter leading Centerburg with a game high 15 kills. She also tallied 17 digs and three aces. Seniors Clara Johnson and Kennedi Glenn split the setting, with 22 and 16 assists respectively. Glenn added six kills, one ace and 11 digs. Senior Katelyn Johnson was the top defender with 20 digs, while Julia Ordnorf had 15 digs and Clara Johnson posted 13 digs. Riley Skillman had a game high four blocks.

Serving was huge for the Trojans in the win, as they had a 16-5 ace advantage in the win. Katelyn Johnson and Elena Joering each had four aces.

For Mount Vernon, Kaitlyn Thompson had seven kills, one dig. Audrey Stuller was outstanding on defense, with the sophomore tallying 30 digs. Senior Jurnie Gleason had 14 digs and fellow senior Ady Beaver had 11 digs. Emma Dean had the only two blocks of the match for Mount Vernon, as well as five kills.

Centerburg had a balanced attack against a struggling Mount Gilead (0-15, 0-9) squad, beating the KMAC rival Indians in a 3-0 sweep on Sept. 26.

The Trojans won by dominant set scores of 25-9, 25-10 and 25-6, with Julia Orndorf leading the team with seven of the team’s 32 kills. Stella Weisbrod was on fire serving with eight aces to go with five kills and nine digs. Katelyn Johnson tallied four aces and six digs. Kennedi Glenn had 13 assists in the match, while Clara Johnson added six. Glenn also had five kills.

Centerburg took a 3-0 win over East Knox (3-12, 2-7) on Sept. 28, handing the Bulldogs their fifth straight loss as the Trojans secured their fifth straight win.

It was all Trojans from the start and had wins of 25-11, 25-5 and 25-12. Orndorf and Weisbrod each had nine kills to lead the offensive charge, and they had 14 and 11 digs respectively. Katelyn Johnson led the serving with four aces and also had 12 digs. Glenn and Johnson split the setting, with Glenn tallying 18 assists and Johnson recording 10 assists.

On Oct. 2, a tough Shekinah Christian team (13-2, 9-0), who are first in the Mid-Ohio Christian Conference, came to town and took a 3-2 win.

Centerburg won the first set 25-19, but the Flames took set two 25-18. Centerburg battled for a 27-25 win in set three and the Flames won set four 25-19. Set five was a battle into extra points but Shekinah Christian won 18-16 to take the match.

Weisbrod tallied 19 kills and Glenn had 10 kills. Riley Skillman had five of the team’s seven blocks. Katelyn Johnson had 24 digs and Orndorf recorded 15 digs. Clara Johnson had 26 assists, while Glenn added 18 of her own.
