Football winners last week put lots of points on the board as local high school football action heated up in the KMAC, OCC, MOAC and LVL.
Danville 41, Fairfield Christian Academy 7
Danville was firing on all cylinders in a blowout 41-7 win over Fairfield Christian Academy on Friday night, as Walker Weckesser threw for three touchdowns and Cole Delaughder ran for 171 yards and had a touchdown in both the air on and on the ground.
Danville went up 27-0 in the first quarter, highlighted by three touchdown passes and a fumble return for a score by Blake Colopy. The Blue Devils scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter, one on an 18 yard pass play and another on a two yard run by Delaughder.
It was 41-0 at halftime, but the Knights got on the board in the third quarter with a 53-yard-run by Danny Blair. This would be all the scoring for the day for Fairfield Christian Academy, as the Blue Devils were able to win off the first half damage alone.
Weckesser was efficient behind center going 7-for-9 with 84 yards and three touchdowns. Delaughder ran the ball 19 times for 171 yards and a touchdown, while adding a passing touchdown. Jacob Hackman rushed for 41 yards on five carries, with 42 yards coming on a single run. Wesley Norris had a 47-yard run. Josh Byers had three catches for 24 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Also catching touchdown passes were Boeshart, who had two catches for 29 yards, and Nate Stephens who had one catch for 17 yards.
Defensively, Colopy had eight tackles and a pair of fumble recoveries. Weckesser had an interception and a pair of tackles. Bryer Boeshart posted six tackles and an interception. Caleb Lucas forced two fumbles and tallied four tackles.
Danville out up 316 yards on the ground and 402 total yards. They 21 first downs and held the Knights to only six. Fairfield Christian had 149 total yards on the day.
Utica 34, Fredericktown 20
Justin Giffin was a force in the backfield for Utica (2-1, 0-0), galloping around the field to lead a rushing attack that amassed a total of 260 yards to help beat the Fredericktown Freddies (1-2, 0-0) on Friday night. Utica has now won six times in its last eight home games since snapping a 29-game overall losing streak in Week 10 of the 2021 season.
The Freddies got on board first with a 28-yard run to go up 7-0, but Hayden Piper tied it up 7-7 on a two-yard run. Fredericktown took a 13-7 lead on an Elijah Roush touchdown run of five yards, but Piper responded with a score from a yard out to make it 13-13 at the end of the first, which would be the halftime score.
In the third quarter Giffin scored on a 30-yard run to make it 19-13, but the Logen Fisher kick was off target. The Freddies responded with a rushing touchdown of seven yards and a good PAT to make it 20-19, but Giffin responded with an eight-yard touchdown run. Anthony Roenker completed the two-point conversion to make it 27-20. Gavin Chinn capped off the scoring for the Redskins in the fourth quarter with a 40-yard catch from Piper. Fisher nailed the extra point to make it a 34-20 game, securing the win.
Giffin had 25 carries for 181 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win. Piper also had two rushing touchdowns, going for 65 yards on 15 carries. In the air Piper was also dominant, going 10-for-14 with a touchdown pass. His number one target was Gavin Chinn, who caught eight passes for 114 yards and a touchdown, a 40-yard bomb that gave Utica the final tally.
On defense Aidyn Burgess tallied seven tackles with two for a loss and one sack. Piper had an interception and four tackles.
For the Freddies, Blake Sipes had 21 carries for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Roush had 10 carries for 45 yards. The team rushed for a total of 220 yards. Sipes was 5-for-15 passing for 56 yards and an interception. Gavin Toombs and Trevor Bellman caught two passes a piece, for 28 and 20 yards respectively.
Defensively for the Freddies, Cirk Parker had 15 tackles and a sack. Recording half-sacks were Lane Warner and Nick McFerren.
Highland 50, Crestview 26
Dane Nauman of Highland (3-0, 0-0) scored four touchdowns to help the Fighting Scots remain perfect to start the season in a 50-26 blowout win over the Crestview Cougars (1-2, 0-0). Nauman finished with 309 yards rushing on 16 carries.
The Fighting Scots went scored 24 unanswered points to start the game, with seven in the first quarter and 17 points in the second quarter. In the first quarter Dane Nauman scored on a 27-yard rushing touchdown and a Malin Fichtner kick made it 7-0. Fichtner kicked a field goal in the second quarter with eight minutes to go to make it a 10-0 game. The Fighting Scots extended the lead to 17-0 on a 65-yard punt return. They extended the lead to 24-0 on a 49-yard pass play.
In the third quarter with seven minutes on the clock, Liam Kuhn put the Cougars on the board with a three-yard touchdown pass to Karter Goon. Highland responded with a 70-yard kick return for a score by Kort Sears to go up 30-6. With less than a minute left in the third quarter, Brice Perkins picked off a pass and returned it for 40 yards and a score.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter Nauman struck again to make it 36-14 on a 22-yard rushing touchdown. The Cougars scored with eight minutes to go on a 42-yard touchdown pass by Kohn to make it 36-20. However, Nauman responded with another score, this time on a 42-yard run to go up 43-20 after Fichtner nailed the extra point. With five minutes left in the fourth, Kuhn scored for the Cougars on a 10-yard run, but Nauman continued his dominance with a 79-yard rushing touchdown to go up 50-26 after a made extra point.
Mount Gilead 22, Grove City Christian 0
Mount Gilead (2-1, 0-0) had no problem with Grove City Christian (2-1, 0-0) on Friday night, blanking the Eagles in a 22-0 win.
Mount Gilead scored three touchdowns all on runs, one in the first quarter for nine yards by Mason Barnum, then the third quarter by Eliot Jones for four yards and a seven yarder in the fourth quarter by Carson Trainer.
Mount Gilead did most of their damage on the ground with 318 rushing yards. The Indians added 43 passing yards for 361 total yards on offense. Grove City only managed 68 rushing yards and 69 passing yards for 137 total yards. Third down conversions were a major advantage for the Indians, who went 9-for-13 while the Eagles went 2-for-10.
Cole Fricke had 18 carries for 124 yards to lead the rushing attack. Barnum had 14 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown. Jones ran 10 times for 45 yards and a score. Trainer had eight rushing attempts for 68 yards and a touchdown. Fricke was 4-for-7 passing for 43 yards and two interceptions. Gabe Simpson caught two passes for 24 yards.
Cardington-Lincoln 36, Bucyrus 28
Wyatt Denney dominated the ground game for Cardington-Lincoln (1-2, 0-0) with nearly 200 yards rushing in a 36-28 win over Bucyrus (0-3, 0-0) on Friday night at home.
Denney talled 195 yards rushing on 23 carries, with a touchdown. Journey Williamson had eight carries for 55 yards, and also was 9-for-19 for 121 yards and two passing touchdowns. Greg Donaldson was his top target with four catches for 33 yards. Denton Garrison had two catches for 63 yards, with both going for touchdowns. Merek McClure had a touchdown catch of 16 yards.
Mapleton 40, Northmor 33
Northmor (2-1, 0-0) had a one-point lead heading into the final quarter, but Mapleton (2-1, 0-0) stepped up in the fourth to put eight points on the board and take a 40-33 win despite a huge three touchdown performance by sophomore Carson Campbell of Northmor.
Mapleton had an 8-0 lead after one quarter, and 24-12 lead at halftime, but Northmor came back out in the second half and had a 21-8 third quarter advantage. Mapleton came back to take the late game win in the fourth quarter.
Campbell had 17 carries for 213 yards, including a 62-yard run, to go with three touchdowns. A.J. Bower was 7-for-20 with 130 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had three carries for 11 yards. Bodden Landin caught four passes, with two for touchdowns, and 96 yards. Jax Wenger was the leader on defense for Northmor with 13 tackles. Paul Cramer had an interception, Vance Johnson caused a fumble and Garrett Harvey recovered two fumbles.
Colonel Crawford 49, East Knox 15
Colonel Crawford (3-0) jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter against East Knox (1-2, 0-0) and never looked back, en route to a 49-15 lopsided win over the Bulldogs on Friday.
Colonel Crawford went up 7-0 in the first quarter when Trevor Vogt ran back a kickoff for 75 yards, and Braxton Morton knocked it through the uprights. Vogt scored again on a 43 yard touchdown run to go up 14-0 with a Morton kick. Blake Elliott put the Bulldogs on the board with a two yard run, and Will Jensen kicked a PAT to make it a 14-7 game. The Eagles extended their lead to 21-7 with a Vogt pass to Connor McMichael for 57 yards. A highlight for the Bulldogs in the first quarter was when Jaxon Lester unleashed for a 65 yard pass play on a bomb to Caden Wengerd that got the Bulldogs down near the goal line.
In the second quarter, on third and nine, Wengerd got in on the defense with an interception he returned for 17 yards. However, the only scoring in the quarter would come from the Eagles on a McMichael touchdown run of 18 yards.
The third quarter was all Eagles with Vogt scoring on a 25-yard run and Micah Thompson scampering in from 18 yards out. Thomas scored again in the fourth quarter, running in from 14 yards out to make it a 49-7 game. Luke Holsinger scored for the Bulldogs on an 18-yard run but the Eagles held on for the easy win.
Holsinger ran the ball well for the Bulldogs, rushing seven times for 70 yards and a touchdown. Lester had a tough day passing going 5-for-16 for 92 yards and a pair of interceptions. He also ran seven times for 31 yards. Wengerd had a pair of catches for 80 yards. On defense, Wengerd had four tackles and an interception.
Worthington Christian 20, Centerburg 7
Turnovers were the bane of Centerburg’s (1-2, 0-0) existence against Worthington Christian (2-1, 0-0) on Friday night, with the Trojans getting picked of three times en route to a 20-7 loss to the Warriors.
Centerburg got the scoring going first with a 7-0 lead off a 45 yard touchdown run by Caylan LeMaster and an extra point by Daniel LeMaster. This would be the only lead of the day for the Trojans.
Worthington Christian’s Hobie Raikes ran the ball in from five yards out, and a PAT made it a 7-7 game. After both teams failed to score in the second quarter it was a tie game at the half.
In the third quarter Raikes tossed a six yard touchdown pass to Cameron Robinson to make it 13-7. Raikes then ran the ball in for a two yard score to make it 20-7 in the fourth quarter.
Centerburg was held to only 47 passing yards and 94 yards on the ground. They had seven first downs, while the Warriors had 17.
LeMaster had 11 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown. Jesse Rings added 14 carries for 33 yards. Rings was 7-for-15 for 47 yards and an interception. Trevin Harris was his favorite target on the day with four catches for 17 yards. On defense, Chris Marshall stepped up with 6.5 tackles.
Hillsdale 31, Loudonville 3
Loudonville (1-2, 0-0) had its hands full with Hillsdale (3-0, 0-0) and only managed to score on a field goal in a 31-3 loss on Friday night.
Leading the charge on offense for Loudonville was Matt Sprang, who went 7-for-20 for 80 yards and an interception. Baylor Weiser had 45 yards rushing on 10 carries. Caden Donaldson ran four times for 42 yards. Cam Beachy had three catches for 50 yards while Hunter Polen pulled in a pair of catches for 19 yards for the Redbirds.
Hayes 42, Mount Vernon 0
The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets (1-2) traveled to Delaware Hayes (3-0) Friday night and came back empty as the took a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Hayes was up 28-0 at halftime and after a scoreless third, the Pacers added two scores in the fourth for the 42-0 win.
New Philadelphia 22, Wooster 13
New Philadelphia’s (2-1, 1-0) Etnie Richardson and Keaton Fausel combined for 240 yards rushing in a 22-13 win over Wooster (1-2, 0-1), in what was their first conference matchup of the season.
Richardson ran the ball 24 times for 125 yards and a touchdown, while Fausel had 16 rushes for 115 yards and a score. Fausel was 9-for-18 passing, for 121 yards. Jordy Delacruz caught two passes for 42 yards in the win.
Aiden Matthews had an interception and three tackles for the Quakers. Boston Crowell had one sack and three tackles. Jaiden Boltz led the team in tackles with 14, and Zach Rothrock added 12 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Carson Long also forced a fumble and had six tackles.
On defense, Hayden Meese had 22 tackles and a forced fumble for Wooster. Evan Patton had a forced fumble, a sack and three tackles. Julian Franklin had two sacks, a forced fumble and nine tackles. Ethan Shetler had five tackles and a half-sack. Grant Beard recorded eight tackles and a fumble recovery.
Ontario 38, Madison Comprehensive 0
The Madison Comprehensive Rams (0-3) were shut out for second consecutive game and have been held to 14 points in three games, as Ontario (3-0) dominated Friday's game 38-0. The Warriors completed their second straight shut out in keeping the rams off the board as they did Centerburg a week prior. The Rams were held to 115 yards of offense and never forced the Warriors to punt as Ontario's offense picked up 337 yards.
Licking Valley 40, West Holmes 35
Licking Valley (2-2) came from behind to take down West Holmes (2-2) by a 40-35 score, Friday night. The first quarter saw 39 points put on the board with West Holmes holding a 20-19 lead. Following a scoreless second quarter, a back-and forth third frame saw West Holmes hold a 35-34 lead after three. The Panthers took the lead for good with 5:29 left in the game on a TD pass from Hayden Rodgers to Marshall Carr to secure a five-point win over the Knights.
Buckeye Valley 27, Ashland 23
Ashland (2-1, 0-0) had 410 total yards in Friday night’s matchup against Buckeye Valley (1-2, 0-0), but it wasn’t enough to get a victory with the Barons winning 27-23.
The Arrows went up 10-7 in the first quarter, but Buckeye Valley made it 20-17 at halftime. The barons outscored Ashland 7-6 in the third quarter and held on for the win.
Ashland had 233 passing yards and 177 yards rushing on the day. Buckeye Valley put up 353 total yards, with 208 passing and 145 yards rushing.
Lexington 28, Clear Fork 27
Lexington (1-2, 0-0) came from behind with a fourth quarter touchdown to beat Clear Fork (1-2, 0-0) on Friday night, 28-27, as Minuteman QB Clay Caudill completed 12-of-21 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns while also running for 54 yards. Seven Allen finished with six catches for 152 yards and a touchdown while Brayden Fogle caught three passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns including the game-winner.
The Colts put seven points on the board in the first quarter and then both teams scored 14 points in the second, making it a 21-14 lead for Clear Fork at halftime. Lexington outscored Clear Fork 7-6 in the third and then scored seven points to clinch the win in the fourth quarter, on a 35-yard touchdown pass by Caudill to Fogle, with an extra point to go up by one and take the win.
Washington 51, Mansfield Senior 10
Washington (3-0, 0-0) completely dominated Mansfield Senior (1-2, 0-0) on Friday night, with the Tigers going up big to start and cruising to a 51-10 victory.
Washington led 21-7 after one quarter and 35-10 at halftime. They then held the Tygers scoreless in the second half while scoring 16 points of their own to taken the easy win.
