BEREA, OH (08/04/2023) – Kaleigh Loyd from Mount Vernon was among seven Baldwin Wallace Women's Rugby student-athletes selected as a National Collegiate Rugby 2022-23 Scholastic All-American.
The annual program recognizes high-performing student-athletes in college rugby across the nation. To qualify as an NCR Scholastic All-American, student-athletes must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher for the academic year and be rostered 50% of the Fall 15's varsity matches or rostered 50% of the varsity Spring 7's tournaments. Loyd, majoring in public health and community health promotion, is part of the selective group of Scholastic All-Americans representing approximately 1 out of 20 student-athletes competing in college rugby. The BW Men's Rugby team has eight student-athletes earning this honor.
Of the seven BW Scholastic All-Americans, Cancian and Hayes are repeat selections. Seven hundred sixty total NCR student-athletes from men's and women's teams earned Scholastic All-American honors with 148 colleges represented. BW Women's Rugby student-athlete, Canican was one of 123 maintaining a 4.0 GPA for the entire academic year. Baldwin Wallace Women's Rugby competes in the Ohio Valley Women's Collegiate Rugby Conference (OVWCRC). The team finished as conference champions in the Fall 2022 15's Season.
