East Knox 5, Cardington-Lincoln 0
Just one start after throwing a perfect game, East Knox’s Bryar Householder continued his mastery on the pitcher’s mound with a three-hit shutout over Cardington-Lincoln (3-5, 2-3), with the Bulldogs (6-3, 3-2) taking a 5-0 win on April 19.
It was a scoreless game until East Knox got on the board in the third inning to go up 1-0. They scored two runs in the fifth and another two runs in the sixth inning to secure the shutout win, tallying 12 hits along the way.
Householder continued to control opposing bats in the complete game shutout, throwing 89 pitches with 68 being strikes. He allowed only three hits – though one scorebook had it as two hits with a runner on base via an error – and 16 of the 21 total outs came on strikeouts. He also did not walk a batter.
Cardington-Lincoln’s Wyatt Wade, who was also coming off a shutout, took the loss. He pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs, three walks and 12 hits, while striking out five batters.
Leading the offense for the Bulldogs was Householder, who helped his own cause with a 2-for-3 day, including a solo homer. Cole Delaughder went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, a run, a double and a walk. Gavin Layne had a 2-for-4 day with a double and a run scored. Josh Keith had an RBI on a 1-for-4 day at the plate.
The Pirates' hits came from A.J. Hall – 2-for-3 or 1-for-3, depending on the scorebook – and a 1-for-3 day from Wyatt Denney.
Northmor 8, Danville 0
Grant Bentley of Northmor (9-1, 6-1) was dominant on the mound and at bat against the Danville Blue Devils (6-8, 1-5) on April 19, throwing a complete game shutout to lead the Golden Knights to an 8-0 win.
Northmor started the game with a run in the first and added two more in the third. In the fifth inning, the Golden Knights put four on the board and then added a sixth-inning insurance run. They tallied seven hits on the day, while Danville only mustered four while committing four errors compared to none by Northmor.
Bentley threw seven innings on 80 pitches with 57 for strikes. He scattered four hits, all singles, in the win, while striking out seven and walking one batter. Bentley also went 2-for-4 at the plate, with a walk and a run scored.
Cooper Thomas led the offense for Northmor going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a walk. Isaac Black was 1-for-1 and Drew Hammond went 1-for-2 with two runs and two walks.
Danville got hits from Grayson Brokaw, Kendall Carter, Caleb Lucas and Levi Lyons. Lucas also had a walk.
Watkins Memorial 5, Utica 4
In a tight game between Utica (5-6, 3-4) and Watkins Memorial (9-3, 7-0), Utica had a one-run lead going into the fifth inning, until Watkins Memorial put a three spot on the board to take a late lead for a 5-4 win despite a solid day at the plate by Utica's Roman Gamble.
Watkins Memorial scored two runs in the first inning, but Utica tied things up in the second inning with two runs of their own. The Redskins took the lead in the third at 3-2, but the Warriors scored three runs in the fifth inning. Utica scored once in the fifth, but couldn’t find their way to the plate and took the one-run loss.
Utica was led offensively by Gamble, who had a big day at the dish, going 3-for-4 with a double, as well as three stolen bases. Aidyn Burgess went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Chase Bennett went 1-for-4 with an RBI and Jarrett Hill went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Redskins.
Hill started the game for Utica and went three innings, allowing two runs but none earned, while striking out two and walking a batter. Connor Staugh took the loss in one inning in which he allowed two earned runs, two walks and struck out a battle. Gamble pitched the final two frames, allowing an earned run, three strikeouts and two walks.
Mount Vernon 10, Madison Comprehensive 0
Mount Vernon 14, Madison Comprehensive 0
The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets (9-4, 5-3) took back-to-back games against Madison Comprehensive (3-5, 2-3), with MV winning 10-0 and 14-0, April 18-19.
MV's Caden Rowland shut down the Rams on two hits in five scoreless innings in the April 18 game, striking out 11 and walking one. A five-run fourth made the game a rout at 10-0. The Jackets connected for 10 hits, led by Konner Daughriety's 3-for-3, with three runs scored and four ribbies. All of Daughriety's hits were for extra bases as he belted a double, triple and a home run. Zac Clow and Cash Finnell each connected for two hits and each blasted a double.
The following day, pitching again dominated with Finnell combining with Brody Hughes to shut out the Rams on four hits, with six strikeouts and no walks. A seven-run first put the game away early, and the Jackets bashed out 13 hits, led by Jonny Askew's 3-for-3 with four RBIs, Trevor Buttke's 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two hits apiece from Daughriety and Clow. Daughriety scored four runs in the blowout.
