MOUNT VERNON – Local restaurant Flappers Bar & Grille will host a visit from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) in late April 2023.
America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on local, independently owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant Wednesday, April 26. Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owner Erron Porter about the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.
Porter and her husband bought the downtown restaurant in 2016. They had both previously worked at the establishment, which has a long history.
“It’s always been a bar,” Porter said, noting that the building was a schoolhouse in the 1800s until a fire destroyed it. “It’s been a bar ever since the early 1900s.”
Porter said they are “busy all the time,” partly due to their prime location right off the town square. They offer daily specials, live music and pool and billiards.
A popular menu item that will likely be featured on the episode is the Flappers burger, which is topped with two kinds of cheese, onions, jalapeños, their signature “snow sauce” and fries – yes, fries on the burger. Porter said fresh burger patties from a local butcher are delivered to them three to five times a week.
America’s Best Restaurants will film on Wednesday, April 26, from 2 to 5 p.m. EST. The press is invited to attend. Flappers Bar & Grille’s finished episode premiere date will be announced on their Facebook page and will be featured on America’s Best Restaurants’ website.
