East Knox 10, Centerburg 0
Bryar Householder had pinpoint control and movement on all of his pitches in throwing a gem. Householder completed a perfect game as East Knox bulldogged the Trojans, 10-0, April 14.
EK scored three runs in the first and though no one knew it at the time, the game had already been decided. The Bulldogs added two runs each in the third, fourth and sixth innings, and had tacked one on in the seventh.
Offensively for East Knox, the Bulldogs collected eight hits from only three batters. Carson Steinmetz went 4-for-4, Cole Delaughder went 2-for-2 and Householder was 2-for-5 at the dish, with the game’s only extra-base hit, a double and two RBIs.
Steinmetz singled to open the game for EK, and went to third on an outfield error. He scored on a single by Householder, the only run the pitcher-hitter needed.
On the mound, Householder struck out 14 of the 21 batters he faced and needed only 73 pitches, throwing 61 for strikes, including 16 first-pitch strikes, never getting more than a two-ball count on any hitter. He also induced three groundouts and four fly outs. He finished the game with an 0-2 ground out back to the mound, an 0-1 soft fly to right and an 0-2 line out to third … eight strikes and no ball in the final inning, and 10 strikes to end the game, as he fired two strikes to close out the sixth.
East Knox is now 5-4, 2-2 in KMAC play, and Centerburg drops to 2-7, 1-5 in KMAC.
Fredericktown 19, Danville 1
Fredericktown (9-0, 5-0) continued their hot start to the season with their ninth straight win in a blowout victory over Danville (2-6, 0-4) by a score of 19-1 on April 14.
The Freddies went up 1-0 in the first and then exploded for nine runs in the second inning to make it a 10-0 lead. They then tacked on three runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth inning. Danville scored its lone run in the fourth.
Kaid Carpenter had a big day for the Freddies with a 2-for-2 day, while homering and tallying five RBIs and a pair of walks. Korbin McGowan was 2-for-3 with a homer, five RBIs and two walks. Logan Hansen was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.
The Blue Devils were led by Grayson Brokaw, who went 1-for-3, Reuben Troyer, who went 1-for-2, Kendall Carter, who went 1-for-3 and Lane Cline, who was 1-for-2.
Xavier Mullins was the winning pitcher, going two innings with no runs allowed and three hits. Caleb Sheriff pitched three innings and gave up an earned run, one walk and struck out five batters.
Mount Gilead 10, Triad 2
Carter Kennon had a monster day against Triad (2-10, 1-3) in the first game of a double header, unloading for a pair of homers and seven RBIs in a 10-2 win for Mount Gilead (6-6, 2-1).
Triad had a 2-1 lead after one inning, but that was all the offense they would be able to muster. The Indians had two runs in the second, three runs in the third, one run in the fourth and fifth innings, and then two runs in the sixth. They had 13 hits in the game.
Kennon went 4-for-5 with seven RBIs, two homers, a double and three runs scored. Nick Garvey had a solid day as well, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Gage Baker was 2-for-5 with three runs, a double and an RBI.
Hayden Pangborn pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs, two strikeouts and three walks.
Mount Gilead 13, Triad 12
The second game of the double header between Mount Gilead and Triad was a much closer affair in a high-scoring battle in which the Indians edged out the Cardinals 13-12.
Mount Gilead took a 2-0 lead in the first, and then 4-3 after two innings. Triad battled back and scored three runs in the third inning to make it a 6-4 game and then tacked on a run in the fifth inning to go up 7-4. The Indians then piled on five runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh, and held on for a one-run win.
Nick Garvey went 3-for-5 and had six RBIs to lead the charge. Carter Kennon went 2-for 5 with a double and a triple, while knocking in a run and scoring four times. Gage Baker had a 3-for-5 showing while knocking in a pair of runs and scoring three times.
Cameron Vickers picked up the win on the mound. He pitched four innings and gave up five earned runs, walked three batters and struck out three.
Northmor 11, River Valley 8
Northmor’s (8-1, 5-0) Cooper Thomas had a big day against River Valley (3-8, 2-4), leading the offense in an 11-8 win on April 14.
River Valley went up 5-0 in the second inning, but Northmor woke up and scored twice in the third and then nine times in the fourth inning, which served to be the deciding factor.
Thomas was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Drew Hammond had a 2-for-4 day with a double and a pair of RBIs, while scoring a run. Grant Bentley went 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBIs and a walk. Bohdi Workman was 1-for-2 with two runs and a walk.
Bryce Cooper picked up the win and went 3.1 innings, allowing only one hit, two earned runs, three walks and five strikeouts. Trevor Brubaker also pitched, going three innings with four earned runs, four hits, three walks and a strikeout. Hammond pitched two thirds of an inning, striking out one batter and walking one.
Northridge 9, Centerburg 6
Centerburg (2-7, 1-5) started the game hot against Northridge (1-8, 0-5) on April 15, but the Vikings capitalized on a clutch eight-run fourth inning to come back and take a 9-6 victory.
The Trojans had a 3-1 lead in the first inning and tacked on another run in the third to go up 4-1. The Vikings exploded for eight runs in the fourth, and while Centerburg scored two runs in the sixth inning, Northridge was able to hold on for the victory.
Centerburg had nine hits in the game and was led by Daniel Lemaster, who went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Reese Scott went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Colton Petry started the game on the hill for the Trojans and went 3.1 innings with two hits allowed, three earned runs, three walks and struck out two batters. Griffin Collins took the loss and went 1.2 innings, allowing five runs that were all unearned. He walked four batters and struck out one.
East Knox 8, Loudonville 7
East Knox (5-3, 2-2) got a solid performance from Carson Steinmetz, who tallied three hits and a pair of RBIs in an 8-7 win over Loudonville (5-5, 3-1), April 13.
East Knox had a 2-1 lead after one inning and tacked on a run in the third to go up 3-1. Loudonville then went up 3-2 and then charged in front with a four-run fifth inning to put the Cardinals up 6-3. East Knox scored twice in the fifth inning, then once in the sixth and twice in the seventh to come back and take the win.
Steinmetz went 3-for 5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Landon Spearman was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Bryar Householder was 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Cole Delaughder went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Josh Keith picked up the win for the Bulldogs, going for three innings and allowing five runs, but all were unearned. He also walked two batters and struck out one.
Gavin Layne also pitched for the Bulldogs, going four innings while allowing two earned runs, one walk and striking out one.
