MOUNT VERNON – The city’s new management company that will operate the Hiawatha Water Park and Swimming Pool is seeking part-time and full-time seasonal workers to staff the facility, which will open on May 27.

Columbus Pool Management is looking to hire pool managers, lifeguards, concession and pool gate attendants, and pool cleaners, according to a press release from city spokesperson Todd Hill. The positions begin in May and end at the close of Hiawatha’s season on Aug. 19. The release said the positions are ideally suited for teenagers and college students.

Interested applicants can apply for these seasonal job openings at columbus-pmg.com/summer-jobs. Applicants should note on their applications that they wish to work at Hiawatha Water Park, located at 100 Sychar Road in Mount Vernon.

The full-time pool manager position requires a lifeguarding certification, whereas lifeguards must also be American Red Cross-certified. Columbus Pool Management provides lifeguard training for an up-front cost. No experience is necessary to apply for concession and pool gate attendant or for pool cleaner. Pool cleaners work from 6-11 a.m.

The swimming pool’s hours this season will be from noon to 7:45 p.m. The manager will determine pool closures due to inclement weather. If the air temperature is below 70 degrees, the pool will not open.

Pool membership rates unchanged

Pool membership rates did not change from last year. Swimming lessons will not be included in those fees; the city will have more information on those classes soon.

Through April 30, the early discounted seasonal rate for a household membership (limit four people) remains at $200, or $250 for nonresidents. Residents must live within the Mount Vernon City School District. Early individual rates (ages 6-59) for residents are $95 ($125 for nonresidents). Early rates for children (ages 1-5) are $50 ($75 nonresident). The early rates for seniors (ages 60 and up) are $50 ($80 nonresident).

After May 1, seasonal rates for resident households climb to $220 ($270 nonresident), to $105 for individuals ($145 nonresident), to $60 for children ($85 nonresident) and to $65 for seniors ($90 nonresident).

Lap swimming for adults (age 18 and over) will only be from 11 a.m. to noon on Mondays through Saturdays for $45 for the season.

Daily pool rates will once again be $8 for individuals from noon to 5 p.m. ($6 after 5 p.m.), $5 for children ($4 after 5 p.m.), and $7 for seniors ($5 after 5 p.m.), while children under age 1 are admitted free.
