MOUNT VERNON – Beavercreek’s Allison Boot won the crown of Ms. Wheelchair Ohio 2023 during a two-day competition at the Mount Vernon Grand Hotel on March 11-12.

Her fellow candidates, Breanna Hayes of Mount Vernon, Elizabeth Brassell of Wicliffe, and Kelly Berger of Lebanon, will serve as ambassadors of the organization, the Ms. Wheelchair Ohio Organization announced in a press release.

The weekend included educational workshops, private interview sessions with a judging panel, presenting a public speech and answering two on-stage questions. A formal crowning gala ended the weekend, with Boot as the new titleholder.

Sunday’s ceremony consisted of nearly 50 attendees, including family, friends, public officials, sponsors, and other community members. Ms. Wheelchair Ohio 2022 - Krista Allison of Berea ended her reign via a FaceTime appearance.

Boot is a 35-year-old Beavercreek resident who lives with cerebral palsy. She earned a Master of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of Dayton and is a three-time self-published author. As a “Wheelin’ Wordsmith,” Boot creates stories featuring disabled characters to spread messages of self-acceptance and equality to young people traveling paths similar to hers. She enjoys writing and advocating, but being a wife and dog mom is what she loves most.

Her platform as Ms. Wheelchair Ohio is: Characters with disabilities in literature geared toward young people to help them raise awareness, embrace differences, advocate for acceptance, and dream big.

Boot will share this platform with communities across Ohio and serve as a leader, role model, and spokesperson for the disability community in the state, contributing to a more inclusive society. She will travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to compete for the title of Ms. Wheelchair America in August.
