Mount Vernon athlete trains in South Korea for Youth Olympic Games
Four USA luge athletes from Ohio departed from John Glenn Columbus International Airport last Friday morning for South Korea, where they will spend 16 days training in advance of next year’s Youth Olympic Games.
One of the lugers, Maggie Richardson, is from Mount Vernon. The athletes are members of the USA Luge Junior “C” Team. While their long-term goals may include the Junior National, National and Olympic teams, the focus of this trip is preparation for the Youth Olympic Games, which will take place between Jan. 19 and Feb. 1, 2024.
The four luge athletes will compete in women’s doubles and include Richardson of Mount Vernon, Goldie Miller of Englewood, Haiden Bunker of West Farmington and Adeline Albert of Worthington. The four athletes were discovered at the White Castle USA Luge Slider Search in Columbus. The Slider Search uses wheeled sleds to identify talented youngsters for the sport. The tour plans to return to Columbus in mid-May of this year.
