Some 125 guests attended Knox Community Hospital’s Centerburg Health & Wellness Center ribbon cutting and open house Friday, Jan. 13.

The facility, located at 3595 Columbus Road, represents a $9 million investment by the hospital and its donors into the community’s health, according to a press release.

“We pursued this project because every community needs a strong health care system, just as they need a strong school system, businesses, housing, etc.,” spokesperson Alice Hutzel-Bateson said in the release.

The center will provide access to primary care, replacing a clinic KCH had operated in Centerburg for some time. In addition, providers Dr. Shawn Reed and Dr. Rebekah Crawford and advanced practitioners Amber Morrison and Kody Green will see patients at the new building.

The Centerburg facility will also be a source for orthopedic services, OB/women’s health, pain management, podiatry and possibly cardiology, outpatient imaging and a lab for bloodwork. Patients can bring lab orders from any physician’s office, whether affiliated with KCH or not.

“We will continue to monitor the needs of the community after we’re open and operating to get their feedback about specific health care services needed,” the release stated.

The project’s general contractor was Equity Construction Solutions. A complete listing of contractors/sub-contractors is available and posted in the building.

Connections Fitness medical fitness center opened it’s new location within the building on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Members can access exercise classes, personal trainers, a therapy pool and more.

Hours of Connections Fitness:

  • Monday-Thursday: 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday: 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Sunday: 1-4 p.m.
Physical and occupational therapy will also be provided here through the Center for Rehab and Wellness. Patients needing physical therapy do not need a physician’s referral.

Although this new facility is not an urgent care center, KCH said it would consider community input regarding whether to offer a walk-in clinic in the future. So far, a similar clinic at the Wright Family Medical Pavilion in Mount Vernon has been well received.

The hospital is considering options for the former primary care building nearby.
