The new owners of Lake Wapusun RV Resort continue to make improvements and add amenities to the camping resort in Amish and Mohican country, approximately 32 miles northeast of Mount Vernon.

Lake Wapusun (lakewapusun.com) offers family camping and is located between Wooster and Loudonville at 10787 Molter Road in Shreve, Ohio.

“Our goal is to build this brand, Lake Wapusun, into a place where people know that they can have the family-friendly, fun, peaceful environment away from the stress of their day-to-day work lives, lives at home,” Max Fishman, operations manager for Red Horn Capital Partners – the ownership group of Lake Wapusun – told Mount Vernon News.

The new owners knew upgrades were needed when the property was purchased. A new Amish playground was installed, and a massive jumping pillow was added.

“We spent a ton of money, and within the next month, we’re actually going to have fiber internet at the property,” Fishman said. “And we’re also working on... we’re still in design phases with engineers on getting all the site upgraded to [have] more modern electrical hookups and water at every site.”

The RV resort owners had to work with local internet providers to bring fiber optics cable more than 6,500 feet – over a mile – to the property. They have already finished remodeling the general store and games/activities area. Work on the bathrooms is underway, and more work is in the planning stages, Fishman said.

Kids will have some form of arts and crafts every weekend or a team-building activity, such as relay races, twice a day. Adult events will include a running cornhole competition through the entire camping season, from April through October.

“On weekends throughout the seven-month season, we’re going to have entertainers from bands to solo singers and magicians,” Fishman said.

Lake Wapusun has five lakes where guests can go fishing, boating and swimming. Its owners welcome seasonal guests who pay a one-time fee for all seven months. It is the closest seasonal campground to the Mount Vernon area, Fishman said. They have 15 to 20 guests from the area already signed up for seasonal camping.

Lake Wapusun is always open to giving back to the community. Last summer, when the owners heard that a fire had occurred approximately one and a half miles away, two staff members brought cases of water and ice over to the firefighters to say thanks for doing their jobs and risking their lives.
