The Mount Vernon Fire Department hired three new part-time employees who will start working this week.
Mayor Matt Starr said the city welcomes Lydia Grimes, Michael George, and Aaron White to its team.
“They’re also very happy at the fire department to see that Captain Lester was nominated and received the city’s emergency services team member of the year,” Starr said.
Public Works replaces, fixes stop signs, street signs
The Public Works Department has inspected stop signs and street signs at intersections and straightened and replaced those that need it, Starr said. The signs suffered from wear and tear and wind damage throughout the years. The city uses high-reflective road signs.
All of the city’s trucks are loaded and ready in case they are needed overnight.
“I think that the temperature is going to rise again. But, if it does drop and we get snow, we’re all set. It’s got to go in and pull out, and we’re off and running,” Starr said.
Data breach probe continues
The city continues to investigate a data breach due to ransomware.
“We continue to investigate the nature of that, and we continue to be encouraged by the fact that there’s no evidence of any personal information getting lost or stolen,” Starr said.
He said Mount Vernon’s information technology provider is working to solve the problem for the city and its other affected clients.
