A graduate of Columbus South High School and Miami University of Oxford, he spent his life in Ohio teaching high school history and coaching various high school sports for 32 years. After retiring, Paul worked part-time for several years inspecting pre-schools in central Ohio for the State Department of Education.
Paul and his wife, Joyce, enjoyed trips with friends and family to Caribbean islands, Hawaii, Alaska and Mexico. They also enjoyed many years after retirement traveling in their motorhome across the U.S. and Canada with their beloved dog, Buckie.
Paul was a member of the Mulberry Church of Mount Vernon, the Retired Teachers Association of Knox County, the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and earlier the Ohio Track Official Association.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Joyce; sons Andrew (Barbara) Watters and J.P. (Stephanie) Watters; step-sons Jay (Lisa) Carter and Joel Carter; grandchildren Jake Watters and Shelby Watters; step-grandchildren Zack Carter and Paige Carter; a sister, Judy Hook; and many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial contributions can be made in Paul’s memory to the Mount Vernon High School Athletic Boosters Department, 300 Martinsburg Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
It was Paul’s wish for others to remember him when he was living and well. At his request, there will be no calling hours. Instead, a private Celebration of Life for the family will be held at a later date.
