Forney, Miller earn honors for Lady Cougars

Two Lady Cougars brought home honors this week, as Morgan Forney of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s cross country team and MVNU women’s soccer team goalie Hannah Miller both earned Crossroads League honors.

Forney was named the Crossroads League Women’s Runner of the Week for placing first overall at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic on Friday, Oct. 14. Forney topped the field of 154 total runners at Wilmington College with an overall time of 18:59.9. To top off her week, Forney was also named National Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week by the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics).

Forney, who is the first woman to become an NAIA All-American in the program’s history, now becomes the first runner to earn a National Runner of the Week nod. The senior from Marysville and MVNU’s women's cross country team return to the course on Oct. 22 in Grand Rapids, Mich., at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.

Joining Forney for Crossroads League honors was Hannah Miller, named the Crossroads League Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after coming away with 12 total saves, a win and a tie, and a shutout in goal for MVNU. The freshman from Ashland was at her best against No. 2 Marian, as she came away with 10 saves in the 1-1 draw in Indianapolis. Miller kept up her strong play against the University of Saint Francis, coming away with a clean sheet in the 2-0 shutout.
