Highland 3, Marion Franklin 0

In Div. 2 sectional play Oct. 17, Highland (20-3) continued to the next round of the playoffs with a dominating 3-0 win over Marion Franklin (0-9, 0-5), by set scores of 25-3, 25-7, 25-8. The Lady Scots took a big lead in the first set and never looked back, controlling all three sets. Kameron Stover had 10 of the Lady Scots’ 30 kills, and Brooke Schott added six.

Serving at 94.1% efficiency, Highland skewered the Red Devils’ defense for 35 aces, led by Zoya Winkelfoos with eight, Savanna Sanborn with seven in eight serves, while Stover, Schott and Larsen Terrill served up five each. Of 59 Lady Scots digs, Terrill had 17 and Camryn Miller had 12. 

  

Fredericktown 3, Utica 1

In Div. 3 sectionals action, Fredericktown (17-6, 9-3 in KMAC) came from one set down to upend Utica (7-16, 4-11 LCL) Oct. 17, by set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-15.  After falling in a tight first set, Fredericktown tightened up its attack and defense and handled Utica in businesslike fashion. Topping the stat sheet for Utica were Emma Kimpel (nine kills, 14 digs); Ellie Boggs (six kills); Abby Buchanan (five kills, two blocks); Emilee Ellis (three aces, 11 assists, eight digs); Lexi Wiegand (two aces, 14 digs); and Alexa Gosnell (15 assists, 17 digs).

 

Licking Heights 3, Mount Vernon 1

In a Div. 1 sectionals match Oct. 19, Mount Vernon (13-10) lost a four-setter to Licking Heights (17-7) by a 3-1 count with set scores of 25-17, 25-19, 16-25, 25-12. The Lady Jackets saw stellar play from Peyja McCord (10 kills) and Kaitlyn Thompson (six kills). Mount Vernon finished with 29 kills and a 95.9% serve rate but had only five aces in 73 serves – two each by McCord and Tori Burdette – six blocks (three by Jurnie Gleason), and 51 digs from 10 different players, led by Madi Rohler with 19. Burdette also had all of MV’s 26 assists.

Ridgedale 3, Mount Gilead 0

Mount Gilead finished its season at 2-17 following a Div. 4 sectional loss to Ridgedale (13-10) in a hard-fought three-set loss, 25-20, 25-14, 25-21.
