CENTERBURG – Six Centerburg High School students will be on stage Wednesday evening, Oct. 19, as part of the Otterbein University Honors Choir.
Vocal music director Stasi Culbertson said the students were selected based on an in-class audition and a brief written statement about why they wanted to participate in the honors choir.
The six are seniors Jasper Faught, Emilee Fletcher, Autumn Kennedy and Madigan Kennedy and sophomores Oakley Brooks and Chloe Evans.
The 6 p.m. Honors Choir program will be in Cowan Hall’s Fritsche Theater, 30 S. Grove St. in Westerville. It is free and open to the public. Centerburg’s choir department is off to a strong start for the 2022-2023 school year with a total of 169 students participating.
“We have 50 in the high school when we’re all together,” Culbertson said. “Some of the kids are taking classes at Mount Vernon Nazarene University most of the day, and others have varying schedules.
“In the middle school – grades six, seven and eight – we have 119 participating in choir,” she said. “That includes 49 percent of the eighth grade. It’s a great start, but we’ll have to see how many continue in high school.”
Culbertson is in her 11th year at Centerburg.
Twenty high school and middle school students have been selected to represent Centerburg at the Nov. 5 Ohio Music Educators Association District 10 Honors Choir event at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. The free public program will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel auditorium.
