Nauman moves up to No. 2 in state rushing, Ruhl No. 7

Highland’s Dane Nauman continues to make his presence felt on the gridiron. 

Following a 308-yard, five-touchdown performance last week, Nauman accelerated from the No. 3 spot to No. 2 in Ohio among all state high school rushers. 

Nauman’s 1,579 yards on 196 attempts, for an 8.06 yards-per-carry average and 225.6 yards per game, trails only Gibsonburg’s Connor Smith – 1,952 yards. Fredericktown’s Teegan Ruhl also moved up the charts with a 221-yard game that propelled him from No. 10 to his current No. 7 position with 1,230 yards on 172 carries – 7.15 ypc and 175.7 ypg. 

Centerburg’s Tyler Johnson is No. 14 (gained one spot after a 200-yard game) with 1,090 yards, and his teammate, Caylan LeMaster, is 29th, with 850 yards. Danville’s Max Payne is 52nd, with 683 yards gained. Johnson is also fourth in Ohio with 23 touchdowns scored and Nauman is seventh with 20.

In passing yardage, Medina’s Danny Stoddard has a big lead at No. 1 (of 348 yards) with 2,789 yards. The local passing leader, Centerburg’s Johnson, jumped up from No. 73 to No. 68 this week with 874 yards on 64 completions in 124 attempts.

In receiving yards, Utica’s Gavin Chinn’s 422 yards on 19 receptions puts him in the No. 59 spot statewide. The state leader is Woodward (Cincinnati) wide receiver Donte Ferrell, with 1,326 yards on 68 receptions for a 408-yard lead.

On defense, Danville’s Levi Lyons had a big week with 15 tackles and moves into the No. 77 spot statewide with 60 tackles – 34 solos and 26 assists. Danville teammate Ryan Lucas is 90th with 58, 32 solos and 26 assists. Leighton Loge of Nelsonville-York leads Ohio with 111 tackles. Travis Merrill of Elyria Catholic has the most tackles for loss with 25.0, and most sacks remains with Dylan Horsley of Norwood, with 10.5.

Kaiden Colopy of Danville is tied with 10 others for No. 3 in Ohio, with five interceptions. AJ Stroud of Keystone LaGrange has seven to pace deep defense. Highland’s Hayden Kline swiped a pair last week to move into a tie for No. 14 with four interceptions.

Centerburg’s Jesse Rings has three, and Danville’s Jacob Hackman,  Centerburg’s Trevin Harris, Fredericktown’s Kaid Carpenter and Utica’s Gavin Chinn each have a pair of INTs.
