Letter to the Editor: Ohio families hurt by HB6 corruption scandal

As Ohioans, we expect our elected officials to protect our interests and abide by the same laws we do.

Unfortunately, some of our state Republican leaders are not serving the people of Ohio. House Bill 6 is now at the center of an FBI corruption investigation that has already cost Ohioans $2 billion in excess utilities. Speaker of the House Larry Householder and four political allies were charged with racketeering in July 2020. Based on a deferred prosecution agreement with FirstEnergy their trial is set for January 2023 and FirstEnergy has been charged with “conspiracy to defraud the public of its right to honest services of a public official through bribery or kickbacks.”

The FirstEnergy Corp. political bribery scandal is costing Ohio families huge dollars on our utility bills each month. FirstEnergy has admitted to paying $4.3 million to a company linked to Sam Randazzo just before current GOP Gov. Mike DeWine appointed him to be the state’s top utility regulator. In addition to the deferred prosecution agreement, a federal prosecutor’s request this week to stay all discovery in PUCO proceedings will further delay getting to the truth behind this ongoing corruption scandal.

Ohioans are working hard to make ends meet. We deserve lawmakers who are committed to serving the taxpayers of Ohio. Voters can elect officials who will protect Ohio families in the future by voting to replace the current GOP leadership in November.
