'Critter collecting' workshop

Knox County Park District Intern Macy Helser will lead a "critter collecting" workshop to discover what lives in the Kokosing River

The event is scheduled for Aug. 6 from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Kokosing Gap Canoe Access, 17812 Lower Gambier Road, Mount Vernon.

Come explore the Kokosing Scenic River and learn about all the cool critters living in and around the water. Helser will be focusing on macroinvertebrates, and what they mean about the quality of the water. Attendees will practice making hypotheses and scientific observations, all while having a great time in the water and discovering amazing creatures.

This program is for ages 6 and up. Don't forget your life jacket (Park District has some to lend) and water bottle and remember to bring the whole family.

Friends to Foes of the Forest Guided Hike

Our Friends to Foes of the Forest Guided Hike has been rescheduled to Saturday, Aug. 6, from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Honey Run Highlands Park, 10816 Millersburg Road in Howard.

All landowners and people who want to learn more about the local native and invasive plants in and around their yards are invited. Knox County Park District Interns Sam Large and Macy Helser will lead a hike where they will discuss and show various invasive and native plant species. This program offers an opportunity to learn more about the common safe and more dangerous plants that may likely be in your backyard and how to manage harmful invasive plants while promoting native plant species.
