The Mount Vernon Co-Ed Softball League entered tournament play with the B-Bracket teams facing off to gain a shot at the championship round.
In the final season standings, the top seven teams earned A-Bracket status and a berth into the championship. The teams that finished below that threshold met to establish what team would move up into A-Bracket ranks for the tournament on Aug. 7, to determine league champion.
TJ. Thorpe finished as the No. 1 seed in the A-Bracket by going undefeated at 14-0.
A+ Autobrokers won the B-Bracket tournament and will advance to the A-Bracket championship. Coffing Electric was the runner up. Coffing lost their second game of the day, in theirr first match against A+ Autobrokers, then battled back through the losers' bracket to meet up again in the championship game.
A+ Autobrokers 19, Coffing Electric 1, championship game
A+ Autobrokers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning and then added six runs in the second to make it 8-0. Coffing Electric scored their lone run in the second inning, and A+ Autobrokers piled on more scoreboard tallies with five runs in the third and six runs in the fifth.
For A+ Autobrokers, Ben Metcalfe was the top performer with a homer and three singles. Emily Murphy and Tommy Stevenson each had two singles and a double. Dave Murphy also knocked a double.
Coffing Electric was held to only five hits in the game, and they were all singles. Connecting for hits were Dillon Randall, Kaleigh Caudill, Lee Caudill, Brett Hinger and Ray Ray Young.
Coffing Electric 18, Ace of Diamonds 3
Coffing Electric scored three runs in the first and four runs in the second before Ace of Diamonds put two runs on the board in the second inning to make it a 7-2 game. Coffing Electric then piled on six runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to go up 18-2, and Ace of Diamonds scored one fifth inning run to make it an 18-3 final score.
Coffing Electric was led by Lee Caudill, who just missed a cycle, hitting a homer, triple and a double. Dylan Randall had four singles in the win. Brandon Frye hit a homer and a double.
Ace of Diamonds was led by Austin Priest, who hit the team’s only homer. Sher Sullivan and Sam Lipiccolo each had two singles and a double.
Coffing Electric 21, J. Gorsuch 10
In another big game by Coffing Electric, they started out huge, and after a comeback closed the gap, Coffing put a tight game out of reach with back-to-back run-fest innings.
Coffing Electric scored six runs in the second inning and a run in the third to go up 7-0. Then in the fourth, they tacked on two more runs, but in the bottom half of the inning, J. Gorsuch put eight on the board, making it a 9-8 ballgame. Coffing Electric scored a run in the fifth, and then the flood gates opened with five runs in the sixth and six runs in the seventh. J. Gorsuch scored two runs in the sixth but was held scoreless the rest of the way.
Brandon Frye led the way with three doubles for Coffing Electric. Corey Webb had two singles and two doubles. Billy Hankins hit a triple, a double and two singles.
J. Gorsuch was led by Cody Smith, who had a double and two singles. Luke Yetzer and Brandon McLaughlin each had a double and a single.
A+ Autobrokers 26, Mohican Lodge 14
Mohican Lodge had a 4-3 lead after one inning, but A+ Autobrokers put a six-spot on the board in the second inning to go up 9-4. The third inning was huge for A+ Autobrokers, as they scored 11 runs. Mohican Lodge scored three runs in a comeback attempt to make it a 20-7 game. A+ Autobrokers scored two runs inn the fourth and four runs in the fifth, and despite Mohican Lodge putting seven runs up in the fifth inning, A+ Autobrokers was able to control the game and win by a dozen.
Tommy Stevenson had a big day with a pair of homers and a single to lead the A+ Autobrokers to victory. Ben Metcalfe had four hits, including a double, and Heather Hamilton knocked a triple in the win.
For Mohican Lodge, Tim Burrell was the top performer with a homer and a pair of singles. Jess Gooding had three singles on the day. Corbin Wengerd had a triple and a single.
Coffing Electric 13, Outkast, 3
Coffing Electric went up 2-1 in the first and then tacked on three runs in the second and five runs in the third while keeping Outkast scoreless for tthose two frames, making it a 10-1 game. Outkast then scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning, but Coffing Electric put three runs on the scoreboard in the sixth inning to secure the 10-run win.
Brandon Frye knocked a homer for the Coffing Electric squad, which was the only round-tripper for either team. Lee Caudill had a triple, and Dillon Randall had three hits on the day, including a pair of doubles.
Outkast was led by Alvin Wengerd, who hit a triple. Jared Darr had a pair of hits including a double.
J. Gorsuch 20, Ace of Diamonds 14
J. Gorsuch had a 3-1 lead after one inning, and then Ace of Diamonds tacked on another run in the second to make it a one run game. In the third inning, J. Gorsuch scored three runs and Ace of Diamonds scored four runs, making it a 6-6 game. The fourth inning was all J. Gorsuch, who put nine runs on the board, making it a 15-6 game. They added four runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth. Ace of Diamonds scored three runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth, but it was too little, too late.
J. Gorsuch was led by Cody Smith, who hit a home run, double and single. Luke Yetzer tripled in the win. Marty Culbertson had a double and a pair of singles.
For Ace of Diamonds, Jake Fry hit a homer and a pair of singles. Austin Priest and Brody McMahon each had a double and three singles. Luke Elliot had three singles.
Ace of Diamonds 18, Tubba’s Tops 4
Ace of Diamonds scored 10 runs in the first and three runs in the second to take an early 13-0 lead. They tacked on another run in the fourth inning before Tubba’s Tops got on the board in the fourth with two runs to make it 14-2. Tubba’s Tops scored two more runs in the fifth, but then Ace of Diamonds added four insurance runs in the sixth inning.
Ace of Diamonds was led by Brody McMahon, who homered, doubled and singled twice. Justin Kollar had a triple in the win. Jordan Welker and Brock Talbott each had a double and a pair of singles.
For Tubba’s Tops, Bo Boucher had two singles to lead the way. Angel Ulis, Hunter Clemons and Ross Boyd all singled.
Mohican Lodge 16, Outkast 15
Mohican Lodge went up 2-1 after one inning and 4-1 after two innings, but Outkast put a run on the board in the top of the third to make it 4-2. Mohican Lodge responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to make it 6-2, and Outkast added a run in the top of the fourth to make it 6-3. Both teams had huge fifth innings, with Mohican Lodge scoring nine runs and Outkast putting up 10 runs. In the sixth inning, Outkast scored a pair of runs to tie the game 15-15, but in the bottom of the seventh, Mohican Lodge scored one run to secure the close win.
Mohican Lodge was led by Tim Burrell, who homered and singled in the victory. John Riggins had a big game with four doubles. John Wengerd had a double and three singles. Taylor Brighter had a double and two singles. Corbin Wengerd had a double and three singles.
Outkast was led by Matt Ott, who homered and singled. Jared Darr also homered and knocked a pair of singles.
Precision Floor 13, Tubba’s Tops 1
Precision Floor led from the first inning and never looked back.
It was a 2-1 game after one inning, but Precision Floor scored six runs in the second, three runs in the third and a run in both the fourth and fifth innings to cruise to an easy win.
Leading Precision Floor was Anthony Miller, who belted two doubles and a triple in the win. Zack Walls had a pair of doubles and a single. Ashley Wyatt smacked a double and a single. Austin Wyatt had three hits on the day, all singles.
Tubba’s Tops had only three singles in the game, one apiece from Ross Boyd, Brittany Metcalfe and Bo Boucher.
A+ Autobrokers 14, Coffing Electric 13
In a prelude to the championship game, the two final-round teams engaged in a back-and-forth battle that went to eight innings.
A+ Autobrokers went up 7-2 after two innings with four runs in the first and three in the third, while Coffing Electric put two on the board in the first inning. Coffing Electric scored a run in the third and a run in the fourth to make it a 7-4 game, but A+ Autobrokers increased their lead with a pair of runs, making it 9-4. Coffing Electric scored two runs in the fifth and held A+ Scoreless to make it 9-6, then tied the game in the sixth inning with three runs.
A+ Autobrokers responded with a two-run bottom half of the sixth. In the seventh inning, Coffing Electric put four runs on the board to take a 13-11 lead, but A+ Autobrokers scored two runs to tie the game at 13-13. After holding Coffing Electric scoreless in the top of the eighth inning, A+ Autobrokers scored to break the tie and take the win.
Tommy Stevenson led the way for the A+ Autobrokers with a cycle (single, double, triple and home run). Sam Yoder had four hits on the day, including two doubles, and Mose Miller smacked a triple and a single.
For Coffing Electric, Lee Caudill belted a homer, a double and a single. Ray Ray Young hit a homer and a single, and Brandon Frye connected for a triple and a double.
Precision Floor 15, Mohican Lodge 2
Precision Floor capitalized on a huge second inning.
Precision Floor put up three runs in the first inning before piling on 11 runs in the second inning and another un in the third to make it a 15-0 game. Mohican Lodge finally got on the board in the fourth inning with a pair of runs, but that was all they could muster.
Austin Wyatt led the charge for Precision Floor with a homer and a single. Anthony Miller had a pair of doubles in the win. Ashley Wyatt and Katelyn Hernandez each had three singles.
Mohican Lodge was led by Taylor Breigher with a double and a single. James Calderhead had a double. Jess Gooden had a pair of singles in the game.
Coffing Electric 10, Precision Floor 6
Precision Floor scored two runs in the second, and then Coffing Electric tied the game with two runs in the third inning. Precision Floor then took a 6-2 lead with a four-run fourth, but Coffing Electric tied the game up with a four-run fourth inning. The game remained tied until the seventh inning, when Coffing Electric put four runs on the board to seal the win.
Shelby Gonzalez led the way for Coffing Electric with three hits on the day, including a pair of doubles. Brandon Frye and Dillon Randall each doubled and singled. Miranda Martindale also doubled.
For Precision Floor, Anthony Miller had three hits, including a double. Ray Hernandez had two singles and a double. Ashley Wyatt had a double and a single.
A+ Autobrokers 10, J. Gorsuch 7
It was a 1-1 game after one inning, but J. Gorsuch put five runs in the board in the second to take a 6-1 lead. The lead didn’t last long, with A+ Autobrokers scoring five runs in the third inning and a run in the fourth to take a 7-6 lead. Both teams scored a run in the sixth, but A+ Autobrokers scored a pair of runs in the seventh to take the 10-7 win.
Ben Metcalfe had two homers and a single to lead A+ Autobrokers in the win. Tommy Stevenson had a single and a double. Rachael Yoder hit a pair of singles. Justin Parker smashed a double.
For J. Gorsuch, Austin Pagani had a homer and a single. Brandon McLaughlin also homered and hit three singles. Josh Eckert had a triple and a single. Luke Yetzer doubled in the game.
J. Gorsuch 12, Precision Floor 9
J. Gorsuch went up 2-1 in the first inning and then tacked on runs in the second and third to make it 4-1. However, Precision Floor was able to put four runs on the board to take a 5-4 lead. In the fifth inning, J. Gorsuch regained the lead with a seven-run inning, going up 11-5 before Precision Floor scored four runs to make it 11-9. J. Gorsuch scored an insurance run in the seventh inning to secure the win.
Leading J. Gorsuch was Luke Yetzer, who homered, doubled twice and singled in the win. Brandon McLaughlin had three hits on the day, including a double. Austin Pagani had a double and a single.
For Precision Floor, Austin Wyatt tripled and singled. Zack Walls had a double and three singles. Katie Mitchell and Ray Hernandez each had three singles.
