Knox Babe Ruth League action at Mount Vernon's Memorial Park included four blow-outs, a nail-biter and two lights-out pitching performances. There were runaways by 18 runs, 16 runs, 12 runs and seven, and one game was a one-run tightrope that was won in the sixth and featured a 15-strikeout pitching display. There also was a one-hitter thrown.

Elks 19, Kiwanis 3

On June 30, the Elks were able to take advantage of a big double-digit first inning and capitalized on seven errors by Kiwanis.

The Elks went up 10-1 after the first inning and never looked back. The Elks put eight more runs on the board in the second and tacked on another run in the third to go up 19-1. Kiwanis scored two runs in the fourth, but it was too late to build a comeback. Kiwanis pitchers gave up seven hits and 10 earned runs while walking nine batters. The Elks managed to hold Kiwanis to only three hits on the day and played errorless ball.

Zach Clow had a 2-for-3 day with a double, a triple, a walk, two RBIs and three runs. Skylar Lawrence went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Draven Elliott went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Ethan Garrett had a 1-for-3 day with two RBIs and a run, and Chase Sheppard reached base three times and scored three runs.

For Kiwanis, Cameron Hill led the way with a 1-for-2 day, including a pair of RBIs. Auden Lehman went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Moose 14, Griffin Insurance 7

Moose erased a four-run deficit in a comeback win over Griffin Insurance, 14-7.

Griffin went up 5-2 after one inning and scored again in the second to make it 6-2. Moose piled on seven runs in the third inning, a run in the fourth and two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, and Griffin put one run on the board in the sixth. Each team had 11 hits in the game, and Moose capitalized on four errors by Griffin. 

For Moose, Grayson Brokaw went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. He also pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, an earned run and two walks while striking out seven. Riley Pilotti went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, three runs scored and two RBIs. Mason Mitchell went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Vincent Kizer went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. C.J. Fisher had a 1-for-2 day with a triple, two runs, an RBI and a walk. 

Griffin was led by Talon Stevison, who went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Carson Meyer went 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Caleb Youngman had a 1-for-2 day with a run and an RBI.

Rotary 16, Kiwanis 4

Rotary jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 16-4 win over Rotary.

Rotary scored five runs in the first and a run in the second, then poured on seven runs in the third after Kiwanis got on the board with three runs in the top of the inning. In the fourth inning, Kiwanis scored once and Rotary added three more runs before shutting down Kiwanis in their last at bat in the fifth. Overall, Rotary had 12 hits in the game while holding Kiwanis to only five.

Leading Rotary was Bryson Armstrong, who singled four times in a 4-for-4 showing. He also had an RBI and three runs. Coen Armstrong went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Bryson Lahman was 1-for-2 with a run, two RBIs and a double.

Kiwanis was led by Auden Lehman, who was 2-for-2 with an RBI, run and a walk. 

Rotary 3, Elks 2

Coen Armstrong spun a gem for the Rotary Babe Ruth team on July 7, striking out 15 in a complete game win over the Elks.

Rotary scored in the first inning to go up 1-0, but Elks tied the game with a run in the second inning. In the third, Rotary scored to make it 2-1, but Elks quickly tied it up in the fourth. Rotary scored a run in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead and managed to shut down the Elks in the seventh for the tight win.

Armstrong allowed two earned runs on six hits and did not walk a batter in 7 innings of work on the mound. He also went 1-for-3 at the plate. Gauge Stull went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Aric Lust had a 1-for-3 day and a steal.

The Elks had some good pitching as well. Dravon Elliott delivered a strong pitching performance despite falling to Rotary. He pitched 4 1/3 innings with only one earned run allowed, three hits, a walk and three strikeouts. Zach Clow came in to relive him and pitched 1 2/3 innings with an unearned run and two strikeouts. Clow also doubled in the game, going 1-for-3.

Griffin 18, Kiwanis 0 

Caden Ridenhour was dominating and nearly unhittable on the mound for Griffin Insurance, throwing a one-hitter to beat Kiwanis.

Griffin Insurance scored four runs in the third, three runs in the second, six runs in the third and five runs in the fifth. The team amassed 22 hits in the blowout victory.

Ridenhour allowed a hit and a walk while piling up eight strikeouts over five complete innings. He also had a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a triple, four RBIs, four runs and two walks. Bryce Kreager had a homer with four RBIs and four runs on a 2-for-4 day. Caleb Youngman went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs.

The lone hit for Kiwanis was by Auden Lehman, who went 1-for-2 in the loss.
