Scott Savage, owner of Savage Pools and Patios, one of the division sponsors for this year’s Mount Vernon Junior Golf League, played golf for Mount Vernon High School. In addition to being one of the league’s main sponsors, he is a benefactor as well. Savage came out to MV Junior League competition last Thursday and donated a check for $300 to the group, as the young golfers and the league’s coaches got together before play started for a photo opp.
Savage is proactive in getting local youth the opportunity to learn and play golf and gain from the overall experience.
“I’m really glad we as, a company, had the opportunity to get involved with the junior golf program,” Savage said. “The coaches and staff deserve all the credit. They invest in these young men and women, and I know they are passionate about it. It’s great to see the kids in the community have an opportunity to learn more about the game of golf. The sport requires discipline and self control which will help the kids learn life lessons on and off the course.”
The Junior League runs every Thursday from 10 a.m. - noon at the Vernon View Golf Course, 901 Beech St. in Mount Vernon, with play ending July 21. It is limited to 30 players (boys and girls) ages 10-18. Instruction focuses on putting and chipping, basic swing mechanics, the rules of golf and on-course play. Split into three divisions of about 10 golfers each, the divisions are sponsored by Wendy’s, Mount Vernon GMC and the Savage Pools and Patios.
