GAMBIER – Kenyon’s men’s and women’s swim teams have earned many sets of honors for the 2021-2022 season, and academic awards keep pouring in. This time, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced that both the Kenyon College men’s and women’s programs have, once again, been named Scholar All-America Teams.
The CSCAA delivers the honor twice a year, and Kenyon collected it in each semester of the 2021-22 campaign.
After finishing fifth at the NCAA championships, the Kenyon Owls (Lords, at the time) men’s swimming and diving team earned this recognition as overall, student-athletes on the 2021-22 Kenyon men’s roster combined for a 3.45 team grade-point average, which far-surpassed the minimum 3.00 GPA for award eligibility.
The award for the 2021-22 team marks the 16th straight season in which the Kenyon men earned a spot among the NCAA Division III Scholar All-America teams.
Throughout the past season, Kenyon posted a 4-1 dual meet record, took second place at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship and went on to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship.
Other scholarship awards for the Owl men include recognition for Marcus Hong (swimmer), who received an NCAA postgraduate scholarship. Concentrating on biological chemistry, Hong was a constant presence on the Kenyon Merit List and was a four-time College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American. Hong is the 34th student-athlete in Kenyon Lords' swimming and diving history to earn the scholarship. He is also the 10th to claim the award in the last decade.
Encompassing all sports, Kenyon ranks second in NCAA Division III with 89 NCAA postgraduate scholarship winners since the 1969-70 season.
Drew Albrecht (diver) earned recognition as an honoree on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VII team and was later named a member of the NCAA Division III Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team. Albrecht is a molecular biology major.
After winning the 24th NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship in the program’s history, Kenyon’s women’s program was also named a Scholar All-America Team again. The women also collected both CSCAA semester honors awarded in the 2021-22 campaign. Overall, student-athletes on the 2021-22 Kenyon women’s roster combined for a 3.53 team GPA. The award for the 2021-22 team marks the 16th straight season in which the Kenyon women earned a spot among the NCAA Division III Scholar All-America teams.
Throughout the past season, Kenyon posted a 5-1 dual meet record, took first place at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship and went on to capture the 2022 NCAA Division III Championship title for the 24th time.
The Kenyon women’s swimming and diving team also saw academic honors for Emmie Mirus and Crile Hart, who earned positions on the CoSIDA 2021-22 Academic All-America Women's At-Large Team.
Hart (swimmer), Kenyon’s Senior Athlete of the Year, graduated as an anthropology major and also was named the D-III Honda Athlete of the Year finalist for swimming and diving
Mirus (swimmer), a double major in sociology and Spanish, was winner of Kenyon's Falkenstine Award for leadership and integrity. Mirus also earned an NCAA postgraduate scholarship. Her selection made her the Kenyon swim program's 36th postgraduate scholarship recipient, as well as the program's 12th recipient over the past decade.
