MOUNT VERNON – Family and church community helped commemorate the 70th wedding anniversary of Robert and Miriam Sue Denzer on June 5 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon.

On June 8, 1952, Robert and Miriam Sue Denzer were wed at the First Mennonite Church in Sugarcreek. 

Together, they raised two children and were blessed with four grandchildren, though one is now deceased, as well as one great-grandchild.

Graduated from Otterbein College in 1952 with a bachelor of science in education, Robert then graduated in 1975 from Springfield College with a master in science in education. In between, he served in the U.S. Army 64th tank battalion, serving in Korea and attaining the rank of Staff sergeant.

Miriam Sue graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in music in 1975.

Robert's career was with the YMCA in Mount Vernon; in 1954-1957, he served as the physical director, and from 1957-1991, he served as the executive director.

Using her music degree, Miriam Sue worked as an elementary school music teacher in the Mount Vernon City Schools for 25 years. She also served as director of choirs at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon from 1965-1985. She has been a member of the Knox Community Concerts, Beethoven Club and Knox County Symphony and has acted in dramas put on by the Mount Vernon Players.

Robert and Miriam Sue have been members of the First Presbyterian Church since 1954 and sang in the choir for 64 years. Together, they have traveled extensively in the United States, England and Ireland, and have even participated in international bicycle tours in seven European countries as well as the U.S. and Canada.
