In recent Knox Babe Ruth League action June 2 at the Mount Vernon Babe Ruth field located at Memorial Park on Mount Vernon Avenue, Rotary edged Griffin Insurance 9-6, and Elks stomped Moose 13-1.
Rotary 9, Griffin Insurance 6
Rotary scored three in the first, three in the second and two in the third to rock their way to a 9-6 win over Griffin Insurance. Griffin put up two in the first to take a 2-0 lead, but fell behind 9-3 after three innings. C. Armstrong went 4-for-4 and Arie Lust went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Will Armstrong got two hits to lead Rotary. Bryce Kreger’s three hits were tops for Griffin. Kreger’s triple was the only extra-base-hit in the game. Noah Crothers and Carson Meyer got two hits each for Griffin Insurance.
Rotary outhit Griffin 13-11 and there was only one error in the game (Rotary).
Elks 13, Moose 1
A close game was broken open with a 10-run third, as Elks crushed Moose 13-1. There were nearly as many hits as errors – 8 hits to seven errors (six by Moose) – and 14 players reached base on walks and the Elks took advantage of their base runners – 19 of them, to 10 for Moose – to run up the score. Elks grabbed a 2-1 lead in the first inning and led 3-1 when they erupted for 10 in the third to invoke the mercy rule and win by 12.
J Morrison went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and two runs scored for the Elks. Draven Elliott scored twice and Zac Clow scored three times and got the win on the mound, pitching three innings.
Mason Mitchell went 2-for-2 for Moose and Grayson Brokaw got their only other hit.
