Foster grandparents needed

Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD) Senior Division’s Foster Grandparent Program and AmeriCorps Seniors is currently seeking individuals to volunteer in Knox County.

Individuals aged 55 and older are needed to volunteer as tutors, mentors and role models to young people with special needs at schools and community centers. No previous classroom experience is necessary. Pre-service training and on-going training is available. Seniors' knowledge and years of experience are exactly what the kids need.

AmeriCorps senior volunteers who serve with in the Foster Grandparent program provide the kind of comfort and love that sets a child on a path to a successful future. AmeriCorps volunteers report better health and longevity having served their community.

Benefits include new relationships with people in the community and making a significant difference in the lives of others. The Foster Grandparent Program offers modest tax-free stipends to volunteers to help offset the costs of volunteering. Mileage reimbursement and paid holidays is additional benefits. There are immediate openings in Knox County and 29 other counties in southeastern Ohio.
