MOUNT VERNON – May is recognized nationally as National Foster Care Appreciation Month. On May 10, Knox County Job & Family Services in collaboration with The Forgotten Initiative celebrated 21 foster families for Foster Care Appreciation Month.

The Forgotten Initiative (TFI) provides ongoing support to the Knox County Department of Job & Family Services’ foster parents. Fostering Family Ministries participated in recognizing Knox County Foster Parents during this celebration. Knox County JFS appreciates the ongoing collaboration with TFI and Foster Family Ministries to support families in Knox County.

Foster parents are key to providing a safe and loving environment to children in this community who temporarily cannot live with their families.

“Foster parenting is very difficult, and foster parents deserve our support and recognition each and every day,” said Danielle Swendal, KCDJFS Social Services administrator

Knox County Department of Job & Family Services’ foster parents continue to receive support and recognition from the Knox County Commissioners each May. On May 5, Commissioners passed a resolution declaring May 2022 as Foster Care Month. Knox County Social Services staff appreciates the ongoing support of foster parents by the Commissioners.
